fomoco_44 Posted July 18, 2008 Posted July 18, 2008 Hey All I've done enough research and reading to understand that the flat tops on the 260z I'm working on aren't the first choice in carbs for those in the know. However, I'm in the process of changing the head gasket and installing a set of Genie extractors......so I thought I might look at putting a kit through the carbs to freshen them up. This is in light of a track day I have coming up at Wakefield in 3 weeks. I've putting all my eggs in the head reco and extractors and hence don't have much left over for a carb upgrade to round tops or even DGV's. I wen't to repco and got no luv there, and a carb specialist in the area wants $200 for the complete rebuild kit(without new needles). If these carbs were working ok(rough idle and stalled easily.....though headgasket is leaking) should I just leave well enough alone?....or does anyone know where I can get a kit cheaply? From what I can gather, the only real thing I can adjust on these is the float level, so I think I might give that a look soonish. Quote
Moderators Zedman240® Posted July 18, 2008 Moderators Posted July 18, 2008 Maybe a cheap alternative for the time being is a single carb manifold from a 260C or similar with a downdraught Weber? You may need an adaptor or something (never done a conversion like that but doesnt look too hard). Then you can save your pennies for the ultimate setup you are after. Rather than spend good $$$ on boat anchors! Just my 2 boat anchors worth.... Quote
C.A.R. Posted July 18, 2008 Posted July 18, 2008 I'd be sticking with the flat tops. I doubt a DGV would give much of an increase anyway, considering the hassle of setting one up. From what I've been told, getting parts/kits for the flat tops isn't easy. I'd just leave them on for the track day & upgrade them after when time/$$$ allowes. Quote
fomoco_44 Posted July 18, 2008 Author Posted July 18, 2008 Thanks Guys, I think I might stick with the flats and do nothing for the moment, apart from check float level....having enough trouble getting the head off!!. Just snapped the 2 bolts off and still have one last one to go!! I'm thinking of throwing a full-blown hissy-fit in the hope it will take pity on me and relent its hold on the head. Zedman, Thanks for the advice in the other post I put up.......and I had\have no idea what a 260c is!. Will have to do some googling to find out. Quote
Moderators Zedman240® Posted July 18, 2008 Moderators Posted July 18, 2008 lol... A 260C is an old Datsun sedan with a L series 6 cylinder. Look similar to an old Toyota Crown. they came out with a single Hitachi carby. You could actually use the whole setup if your flat tops decide to throw in the towel. This idea is just so you could still drive the car around minus any performance..... Quote
