mrp69 Posted June 22, 2008 Posted June 22, 2008 hey guys i fell that my 240z has a fair bit of body roll what can i do to stop this or minimise it as much as posible?? peter Quote
nat0_240_chevZ Posted June 22, 2008 Posted June 22, 2008 replace mount and link bushes on the front swaybar. if you want more roll resistance, thicker bar or stiffer springs, also a wider track helps but may not be an option if trying to keep carr 100% legal.... raise the roll centre on the car? stop thrashhing around corners? nat0 Quote
mrp69 Posted June 22, 2008 Author Posted June 22, 2008 its not when i corner hard when i put my foot down car doesnt feel like its goin to stick to the ground like if i hit a little pot hole that back end feels like it wants to swing out. i will be looking at changing the shocks it has lowered springs in it now also upgrading front sway bar to a 260z one and adding in the rear. and posibly buying strut braces Quote

You’re stating 2 different things here. The first one (I assume by your vague description) is more of a characteristic of the Zed strut IRS - unless it is severe, you might just have to get used to it. The second one; might I suggest you check your rear Toe settings - too much toe out makes them feel unstable when the suspension is in motion. Quote
620Z Posted June 22, 2008 Posted June 22, 2008 I agree with Lurch I was thinking the same. Check your rear Toe set up on a 4 Wheel alignment. Quote
nat0_240_chevZ Posted June 23, 2008 Posted June 23, 2008 probably a bent rear control arm, very common to see an early Z crabbing down the road!!!! as for roll, dont bother with the rear sway bar, its all in the front anyways, the rear bar makes a tail'ee car when trying to go a lil harder, the irs is plentysome for the rear end. yes sounds like a combination of a few issues to me as well. nat0 Quote
mrp69 Posted June 23, 2008 Author Posted June 23, 2008 yeah my mechanic is taking the car on thursday after him driving it today recommended to change the shocks and probly gettin stiffer springs and a wheel alignment and car should be fine. peter Quote
C.A.R. Posted June 23, 2008 Posted June 23, 2008 You've bought a Zed, yet your not doing the work on it yourself? No offfence, but your missing 1/2 the point of owning a Zed! They are not THAT hard to work on... Quote
mrp69 Posted June 23, 2008 Author Posted June 23, 2008 yeah i now were your coming from but with my work at the moment (project manager) its very hard to find time to work on it when your doing 12 to 14 hour days most days all i wanna do is drive the car but i will be doing most of the other work myself ie all prep work on the car for paint upgrading the brakes myself to pull the springs out will take my days to complete and get right i just dont have the time peter Quote
620Z Posted June 23, 2008 Posted June 23, 2008 Don't be to harsh Lurch. I don't do too much work on mine either. I'd rather be driving it than working on it. Mind you I just don't have the know how either. Quote
sco_aus Posted June 23, 2008 Posted June 23, 2008 Im with Craig, yes its cheaper to do it yourself and im doing the flares, but I want to drive it. I havnt properly driven it in like 2 years, imagine if I had done it myself Quote
FuzzyDropbear Posted June 24, 2008 Posted June 24, 2008 Haha, I'd love to be driving mine, since I haven't actually driven or ridden in a Z yet However, mine is still 1-2 years away from me being able to turn the key over.. Oh well, I love it, great fun to work on older cars. They just don't make cars like these anymore! But that's a bit OT.. Have you considered installing a strut brace to stiffen up the front as well? However, probably best to look at rebuilding the existing suspension components if they haven't been replaced over the life of the car. Otherwise, it would just be masking the problem for a while and in the end would result in a bigger problem. Cheers. Quote
BenZed Posted June 24, 2008 Posted June 24, 2008 Back to the original topic, I found on my first Zed (about 15 years ago) that just fitting urethane bushes to the swaybar links made a big difference to the body roll and general feel of the car, as they take away the delay before the swaybar does something. Very easy to DIY too. Quote
C.A.R. Posted June 24, 2008 Posted June 24, 2008 It's fair enough if you simply don’t have the time but, as long as you have a workshop manual, doing basic work on a Zed is very VERY easy! It makes you appreciate the cars to a whole new level /end rant. Quote
sco_aus Posted June 24, 2008 Posted June 24, 2008 yeh, doing small things is very rewarding, i am lovong doing the small things like sound deadening removal and flares, but i have time atm, not usually. Quote
