Roady Posted July 30, 2019 Posted July 30, 2019 Hi everyone, I’ve been testing some of the spare gauges that I have to discover the Ammeter gauge did not work. After pulling it apart it appears that someone put an excessive current through it and has melted the wire connecting the battery and the alternator. Just wondering if anyone has replaced this wire or know where to get an equivalent replacement grade/gauge of wire. Cheers Quote
Administrators gav240z Posted July 30, 2019 Administrators Posted July 30, 2019 Been there, done that and got the T-shirt.. Apparently this damage was caused by someone getting the battery polarity wrong on my car. Which blew up the AMP gauge. Quote
Roady Posted July 30, 2019 Author Posted July 30, 2019 After you got the T-shirt did you bother trying to repair the other one Gav? Cheers Jason Quote
Administrators gav240z Posted July 30, 2019 Administrators Posted July 30, 2019 No I didn't, it looked pretty well cooked and I figured trying to repair and re-use may result in more troubles later. Considering you can get another AMP gauge on eBay for relatively little money I'd look at that as opposed to repairing what you have. I may even have another spare in my collection somewhere if you get desperate enough. But probably from a 260z. Quote
Roady Posted July 30, 2019 Author Posted July 30, 2019 All good thanks, it’s one of a couple of spares so I won’t bother getting to upset and also now know not to waste any time trying to fix it. Thanks for the tips! Quote
Administrators gav240z Posted August 1, 2019 Administrators Posted August 1, 2019 I would probably speak to an auto electrician about potential for repair. I just wouldn't want you to have larger issues later. A lot of power runs through that gauge and any kind of unnecessary resistance could cause bigger problems. Quote
