Last year i spent many months ripping out the original engine, repainting the engine bay and installing a bigger engine but whist doing this tried to keep a traditional theme . Aim was to keep non standard components looking period and as factory looking as possible . I am now also rebuilding the L24 back to its original configuration ( had triple carbs some non OEM parts etc...) so if i choose can drop the L24 back in an pretty much look totally standard.

During the build last year i decided i had the wrong coil bracket so sourced one from a 1980s Patrol. Last week on ebay i saw a 240z coil bracket, didn't research it very well and bought it, thinking my other bracket is wrong .

Now i am confused , many zed have both types of brackets and my new one is for a larger diameter coil...

Can any one shed some light on which were fitted to what? i have a 1973 zed..

also would a Nikki fuel pump be original brand for a 1973 model? there seems to be Atsugi, Kanto Seiki , Ampco and Nikki......

G'Day Craig,

My late '73 has an Atsugi fuel pump. I have no reason to think it isn't original. As for the coil bracket, your photo in the engine bay, it most certainly looks original enough and looks to be the same as mine. However, I would say coil brackets are one of those items that are likely changed over the years due to the use of different coils, not sure if mine is original. As I said though, from the photo, it looks great.

Have a look at images of 73 engine bays. They both show up on standard looking cars so I think it comes down to personal choice. I’d choose the slotted one because it’ll be lighter so faster. Seems to be an odd bracket affixed to the strut tower as well mate.
