Scoota G Posted April 7, 2008 Posted April 7, 2008 Hi Just wondering if anyone knows wher i can get valve springs retainers (non-standard) and thicker lash pads 4 a Reground camshaft that's going into my N42 cylinder head. Can't source anything local I do have a guy in queensland but maybe thought that someone has been down this path already. Cheers Quote
Moderators Zedman240® Posted April 7, 2008 Moderators Posted April 7, 2008 Try Steve Newing at Speed Technology in Mitcham. He can get them made but you have to know what thickness you want for inlet/exhaust. You might have to use some bearing blue and some shims with the standard ones then you can work out which ones you need. Quote
260Coupe Posted April 7, 2008 Posted April 7, 2008 or go right to the source..............Steve Newing has them made by Chris Wood. Give Chris a call on 0438 772031 and save heaps of $$$ cherrs Alan Quote
Scoota G Posted June 20, 2010 Author Posted June 20, 2010 I called chris and he said .... "can you call me back in a week and a half" :-\ so i called stewart wilkins and got a set for $144. Dalee has them now with a reground cam. Quote
furrybarry Posted June 20, 2010 Posted June 20, 2010 How did you figure out what thickness to go for Scoota? Quote
Scoota G Posted June 20, 2010 Author Posted June 20, 2010 Install the cam and then use shims on top of the lash pad to make sure that the "Wipe" is centered. Then measure the overall thickness of the lash pad and shims. The shims need to be the same size as the lash pad ... you can use washers. Measurement is critical. Quote
260Coupe Posted June 22, 2010 Posted June 22, 2010 Another source for "off the shelf" lash pads is Power Play (ex Dat Rally) in Cheltenham Vic. http://www.powerplay.net.au/ The sell for around $16 each Quote
1600dave Posted June 22, 2010 Posted June 22, 2010 One thing you may want to consider is whether the bottom of the lash pad is recessed as per factory ones, or is just flat. I bought a set recently, base was flat so they didn't sit as far down into the retainer. I still used them, and they lasted for a good 2 hours around Mt Panorama without falling out, but I would have preferred the recessed-base ones. The old ones I took out had the recess (and were non-stock thickness) so they do exist. Might just be me being fussy though Quote
260Coupe Posted June 22, 2010 Posted June 22, 2010 The last set I sourced from Power Play were recessed...........I did have non recessed on my 240 race car for a short time and wondered why it was throwing rocker arms . Try and get recessed lash pads as per the factory parts spec. Quote
