KeenonZ's Posted October 16, 2016 Posted October 16, 2016 Hi All, I have a full fuel injection set up on an L28 motor sourced from Nik Delaney in Wollongong that has done a genuine 102,000 kms from a 1980 Nissan 280ZX. Includes Manifolds, injectors, throttle body, air flow sensor, computer, wiring loom etc in full original and excellent condition. Will need to buy fuel pump as separate. If there is any interest I'll post some pics. Was thinking $500 might be a fair price? Any thoughts/comments? Cheers, Doug Quote

Honestly Alot of this stuff is not worth much, You would probably have more success selling them as parts opposed to the kit. i belive ecu's and AFM's fail on these things on a semi regular basis so people will be looking for those specific parts. There actually not, I found flow figures on hybridz the other day in my inlet manifold research. Its almost not worth bothering, especially if you plan on modding it to fit a different throttle body. Basically there all horrible and i just want one to cut up and use the flange to weld a plenum onto. Quote

PZG302 Posted October 19, 2016 Posted October 19, 2016 The N47 manifold is the best of them, and by a fair way. The shape of the runners is very different and the taper in the log is very different from the other manifolds, it actually flows not too bad for what it is. Also the twin butterfly throttle body isn't that flash, it actually has less diameter than a single butterfly throttle body, maybe better for lower down and running around town but not so much on a racetrack. And the NAPS manifold is also towards the better end of them. When my old green car was built there wasn't much choice for manifolds or throttle bodies, so we went through the lot looking for the best to use. We found the turbo throttle body on the N47 manifold to provide the best airflow, back in the mid 90's when there was no aftermarket stuff about for injection. And another interesting fact, some of the L28e computers were the same as as used in the V12 XJ's. With a bit of black magic and a soldering iron you could tell the computer your L series was a 12 cylinder and double pulse the injectors to get more fuel out of it. Plus some other little tricks like Jason had to do with dropping resistors for the injectors and so on to squeeze a bit more when aftermarket options weren't available, or rules don't let you use anything else. Back to the original question, $500 might be a bit ambitious for the injection, however if you are prepared to wait, you might someone with a 280 who wants to restore or refurbish to original. I would through the $500 on it and see, you can always take less and its easier than asking for more than the price you put up. Quote

When you are chasing it, starting with the better base, then working it from there, is the way to go. The port runners, on all manfolds, flow unequal cfm, and vary widely, front to rear. Trick s to get them all with increased flow, and as close to equal cfm as possible. It can be done. Simple fix to TB, replace with a particular Ford TB. Also interrupting/corruting signals back to ecu, and fitting larger cc injectors, gets them working better! Quote
PZG302 Posted October 19, 2016 Posted October 19, 2016 From memory the throttle body from the 4.1 EECIV fitted to the XF falcon was the go if you couldn't get a turbo throttle body. The sizes were within a bee's dick of each other not to worry about the falcon one if you had the turbo throttle body. But nowadays, it's cheaper to get an aftermarket computer rather than dick around with the old bosch computer if chasing more power. Quote

I'll take some pics and load them up, just have to drag the whole engine out from under the garage bench first!! Not too keen on splitting it all up yet, let's see how we go. I had some success running a wolf 3D fuel and ignition programmable engine management system on a Mazda 13B turbo I built back in 2001. I'm sure things have moved on a lot since then but it was very flexible tomprogram fuel and ignition and just had a TPS (throttle position sensor) and a vacuum connection to the engine for boost measurement and that was it. For a NA car you could run just the TPS I would think. The wolf was like a micro tech but a little more user friendly, the reason I used it was my local rotary dunno guy tuned heaps of them and had great results. Don't know where to get them these days though. I don't think that guy is in business any more due to health reasons. The TPS was basically just a rotary dial switch that measured angle of the butterfly. So you could basically use any throttle body you wanted. You could also use any injectors as long as the resistance was compatible and they fit in the infector holes. Anyway, enough babbling, Thanks again. Cheers, Doug Quote
