wildy55 Posted November 22, 2015 Posted November 22, 2015 After finishing the bottom end rebuild, I'm now looking at which N42 head to bolt on top. One is completely standard but the other has th following mods; Head skimmed by 0.9mm Cam towers shimmed by two 0.01 gaskets ( front and rear towers), no gasket in the middle tower and one on the others An E30 cam with CE674A and 110 degree ( well the symbol for it anyway) stamped into the end of it Standard 1.2mm head gasket, rocker arm adjusting screws have about 10mm of thread visible. Does anyone know what the number relates to ( did a search and nothing came up) and what sort of grind the cam has? It's a street car on SUs and extractors. When I dismantled the engine, all six of the top piston rings were cracked. Was told that was likely due to detonation. Does that make sense and is that a timing fuel error or something else? There were no marks on the valves or piston crowns. All help appreciated Cheers Quote
dat2kman Posted November 22, 2015 Posted November 22, 2015 Guessing CE s Camshaft Engineering n Birubi st Cooparoo That grind number is a Wades/Clive Cams ( Melbourne) grind A close picture of the sdes of the lbes, and a measurement f the Base Circle Diameter, could indicate if ts a reground, a welded up lbe, or a billet cam. IIRC, it's a mildish grind, but still plenty good! Tighes grind specs se their own unique numbering system,,,,,,, The shims/no shims is an indication of someone has carefully ensured cam runs freely in the towers. Rings are delcate items, and detonation can crack them, along with the ring lands on the pistons. It'll have been a timing ssue. By time you hear "pinging/knocking" the damage has already been done Quote
wildy55 Posted November 22, 2015 Author Posted November 22, 2015 Thanks for the info, Jason. Will measure cam later today. Looks like the cam's re ground rather than welded? When I put the head back on, do I time-up as per normal on an std L28 and what in and ex valve clearances would you suggest? Thanks again Martin Quote
wildy55 Posted November 23, 2015 Author Posted November 23, 2015 Hi Jason/all Here are the dimensions of the cam lobe. Quite a bit smaller than stock! Quote
dat2kman Posted November 23, 2015 Posted November 23, 2015 Thats a regrind. Nice fat lbes, so better duration. It could do with a polsh up, to help your rockers! Use break in oil concentrate, it has higher zinc, hels the oil do its job. Set lashe cold, intakes at 10-11though, exhaust at 12-13 though It'll settle itself in nce run, then change oil, and run feeler over the rocker pads. That cam will be fine! Quote
Yamahacam Posted November 23, 2015 Posted November 23, 2015 I bought an l26 engine a awhile ago and it had a CE cam as well. Has two numbers on the end CE692A and CE725. I can't get to the motor for a awile to check specs but is there anyone who would still have details on these cams? Quote
