260Z Radio Mounting Brackets?

Hi All!

 

I managed to buy an immaculate 260z radio from the states at a decent price (some are advertised at over a grand!) however, it does not come with brackets....... A google search shows up nothing and cant find photos to see what mounting looks like or how its mounted........anyone have some lying around or have some pictures of what i need to look for when trawling ebay? the radio itself has tabs off the side but im wanting to know how it mounts to the console or the front console bracket itself.....  there are a few ads on USA ebay however all look different to each other

Hope this helps, you can see in this first 2 pics the bracket that holds the centre console to the tranny tunnel is still attached to the radio.

Yep, in other words you need to have that saddle shaped bracket that holds the two front ends of the console apart.

If you've got that, then you're good to go as per Sydney Mike's pictures.

As an aside, on mine that saddle bracket doesn't attach to the floor - it pretty much just rests on the padded diamond vinyl; there is a hole through the centre of the bracket, but no hole through the vinyl so if there is a captive nut in the tunnel underneath I've never found it as the vinyl has never been removed. Hmmm.

Yep I have it.... Cool cool..... Another unrelated question.... The console has 3 fixing points... 3 screws at back, 2 right up the top under dash and each side inline with where your knee would rest... My question is... There is nothing for the sides to screw to... No holes in trans tunnel.... But there is the bracket welded to trans tunnel in front of shifter.... Is the supposed to be another bracket that extends from this down to the side mounting holes?

Yes there is a bracket that fixes to the floor in front of the shifter that extends downwards each side for the console sides to fix to.

On mine, the console is installed with just 5 screws - the 3 at back, & one either side into the bracket I just mentioned. No fixings up under dash.

 

From your posts & with all due respect I'm beginning to think you're assembling a jig-saw puzzle. You're just up the road in Stafford, I'm in Grange, you're welcome to take a look at my car if it would be of any help working out what should go where. It's an early '74 & NZ-new so not representative of later 260s but I've owned it since '84 & it was pretty much original when I got it & hasn't changed much since.

Yep thats what it feels like some times.... Well I don't have those brackets.... Yep might come have a look... If anyone reads this and has the side brackets spare pm me.

The bracket in front of the shifter for the console to fix to is a one-piece. All hidden so if you can't find one then at least you can fabricate one.

But there must be a few spare ones around from parted-out cars surely, it's not something that would be rusted away.
