evolutionise Posted April 19, 2015 Posted April 19, 2015 Hi all, Finally decided to put a RB on the 240z Being reading up a few threads and most people seem to be using the mckinney motorsports kits. However, I came across another kit today by CXRacing and wondering if anyone has used them and comment about the quality of their product. CX Racing Kit - Engine Mount - Transmission Mounts - Aluminium Oil Pan - Oil Pickup All for $905 delivered. http://www.amazon.com/CXRacing-RB25DET-Engine-Transmission-Mount/dp/B00FF3FJEO?tag=viglink20591-20 McKinney Kit - Engine Mount + Transmission Mounts $600 - Aluminium Oil Pan $875 http://mckinneymotorsports.com/prod_240+260+280Z+parts Thanks in advance. Retro Z Posted April 19, 2015 Posted April 19, 2015 Im using some of the bits from CX racing. The quality is quite crude and rough especially the oil pickup and sump. Id go the Mckinney. Also don't touch the conversion mounts from Castlemaine rod shop. They sold me a kit apparently for rb25 into 260z, nowhere near fitting and they have the crappiest customer service known to man. In the end i had to cut and modify the CRS kit to fit. I know a few people who have Mckinney mounts and it looks and fits great from what ive heard. Quote
Moderators Zedman240® Posted April 19, 2015 Moderators Posted April 19, 2015 When I did my RB conversion I used the CRS kit; one of the engine mounts needed to be modified as it didnt line up with the cross member and block. I did send it back with a drawing of what I needed to be done and that went well. Got it back a few days later and fitted the kit without any issues. Quote
evolutionise Posted April 19, 2015 Author Posted April 19, 2015 hmmm noted about CX Racing kit. Guess you get what you pay for... might wait a little longer to buy the kit McKinney kit since the AU$ is going so bad. In regards to the gearbox mount, were there any modifications needed when bolting the McKinney mount to the S30 body? Or was it a straight bolt on? Quote
dat240z Posted April 19, 2015 Posted April 19, 2015 Go McKinney. It's quality, and sits well. Also there are good race style Rb sumps (rear bowl + pickup) for $450ish. Get the engine/trans mounting kit, tail shaft as a must. Then grab the cooler and radiator+fan/shroud locally to save $ on shipping. Look in my build thread at the anodised mounts.. Re question. Straight bolt in. Everything lines right up Quote
Scando Posted April 19, 2015 Posted April 19, 2015 Also don't touch the conversion mounts from Castlemaine rod shop. They sold me a kit apparently for rb25 into 260z, nowhere near fitting and they have the crappiest customer service known to man. In the end i had to cut and modify the CRS kit to fit. I had the same experience with CRS. I only ordered the gearbox mount. Had to modify it heaps to get it to fit and then didn't use it anyway because it doesn't leave any room for an exhaust and uses the chassis rails for all its strenght which are pretty weak on an S30. I e-mailed them photos of the modifications to make it work and received no reply. Quote
nat0_240_chevZ Posted April 20, 2015 Posted April 20, 2015 Due to all the above I 'heard' about the crs units i made myself, from scratch the engine mount brackets and gearbox cross member. It took ages and many attempts to get it spot on but I am more than happy with where the engine ended up aswell as the gearbox fit & position. as these were my main concerns, I had 2 optional positions of the engine (height was made to be as low as possible and does not change between) the std (front to back) & 50mm rearward (just enough to leave approx 30-40mm behind the head to the firewall) Only problem is my application was specific to the earli'er S30 chassis g-box mount which is outlined in another thread. There are also other option in regards to what engine mounts you will continue to use, ie the stock'ee items or captive units with stiff urethane or another oem unit. I stuck with stock mounts as its suited my interchangeability requirements for later down the track. All things to be concerned with, for sure. Then there is sump, another can of worms, pending your specific application of your car etc etc. Look up some old threads on the forum re the mounts, you will find pics and all..... nat0 Quote
