WTB: Gearbox 5 Speed to suit 2000 Sports SR311 (Early 240 box)

My other toy needs new sycho and the gear change is very vague at best (only box I know that will crunch from 3rd to 2nd at 30kph and let you drop it from 5th to 2nd at 100kph without a problem at all).

 

Sorry I know its not a Zed but thought someone may have a one laying around or if any other box will drop in its place?

On the downchange from 3 to 2, pause momentarily in the neutral before selecting 2.

Make it as two movements.

If it still crunches you need a synchro ring.

I have a few here, but they are used.

Stew Wilkins can supply a new one.

 

The spring detents on either side of extension housing can be beefed up with stiffer rate springs.

Pointless putting washers under the existing springs.

Also the gearstick rubber x2 at bottom f stick can be replaced with tapered nylon, ( requires a lathe)

 

These boxes are exactly same as early 240Z, save for bellhousing ( starter motor on phs) and extension housing ( shorter)

Thanks dat2kman. Must admit always "double shuffle"  up and down, just not as good at it as I used to be.

 

Will just the synchro rings fix the crunch?

 

I would think a early 240Z box would be just as hard to get....but I'll ask

I jst sent two Datsun 2000 Close Ratio boxes to a Datsun enthusiast in Finland!

I do have almost enough bits to put two more together.

 

I have bellhousings  and extension housing with the correct mainshaft, to suit Sports 2000, so f you manage to find a Z box, it can be converted over

Mickboy has a 5 speed early 240z box he would more then likely sell, just shoot him a pm, he is in albury nsw however but with ego shipping isn't too bad

Thanks guys, have sent a pm to Mickboy....thinking now it is just as much work to fit new synchros on my box...probably should have a go.
