Anyone have an early flange type box and tailshaft they no longer need? Located in Brisbane ideally, but open to interstate

Roadster boxes have seperate bellhousing with starter motor hump on LHS.

Wont bolt up to L block. It will require a early 240Z 3 piece bellhousing, which bolts straight onto a Roadster box, to make it fit an L block.

Other issue, Roadsters had the shorter extension housing, and when fitted to a Z body, it required the gearstick to be reshaped so that the gearstick "falls" to hand a little better.

To original poster, why do you need a 71A and tailshaft??

Most do the upgrade to a B, or a C type box. Getting A boxes reconditioned is getting harder.

If you are keen, i can supply you a Nismo Option 1 ( Mid Close Ratio) Roadster box, and fit a L motor bellhousing, so it bolts to your engine, and, a correct flange to flange tailshaft, that will need to be lengthened to suit your chassis.

Is the R180 diff still in the original position, or has it had the mod/refit, that has moved it backwards, to stop vibration from halfshafts?

Hi Jason

As you know I have been chasing the close ratio 71b box from the 260z, however have had no luck thus far in finding one.. seeing as the 71As also have the close ratio I have been looking to source one of these - I seem to be under the impression that these are a little more readily available as I can recall 3-4 in the past few months I had seen advertised but passed up on!! Albeit perhaps a little harder to source parts..

I contacted s16864 regarding the Option 1 box however am uncertain myself as to the ratios of this box? A quick google search said these have a 1.00 5th ratio? If that were the case it will probably be a little too costly on fuel for regular highway trips..

R180 still in original position.

Alexander, you will be way better off waiting until a 260 Z box with the 2.9 first gear comes up. Just need to keep monitoring sites.

The A type boxes, as fitted to 240Z, and originally fitted toRoadsters came in one factory set f ratios, known as a Close Ratio or FS71A 5 C or something like that.

The options supplied by Nissan Motorsport division were known as Mid Close  2.6 first gear, and Ultra Close, 1.8 first gear.

They were all 0.86 overdrive, and were 3 piece cading.

The later B thpe were a two piece housing, # FS5W71B or FS5C71B.

Jon's Option box if its a 1;1 fifth, will be a two piece housing box, ie a B type, but with a flanged output.

One quick solution, throw in a regular five speed out of any of the bigger body cars, 240 k, early Skyline, 280zx, get a tailshaft made up,, and then wait till the 260 box turns up,

Or, take that regular box and fit a better, newer c/r gearset, you'll still retain the o/drive 5th for cruising.
