d3c0y Posted April 10, 2014 Posted April 10, 2014 Hey Guys, I have a new (read second hand) fuel tank that is silver and i want to repaint it gloss black. Do i need to paint the tank with some sort of special fuel tank paint or can i just sand back and spray it with my super favorite paint Kill Rust Gloss Black??? Quote
PZG302 Posted April 10, 2014 Posted April 10, 2014 Just like any other metal, go nuts with the rust kill. Don't do the inside with kill rust though...... It might be worth getting a por15 kit or similar to treat the inside to make sure all is good. Quote
dat240z Posted April 10, 2014 Posted April 10, 2014 I got mine boiled and blasted. So much rubbish from inside the tank came out.... Quote
George Posted April 10, 2014 Posted April 10, 2014 I took out my fuel tank a couple of weeks ago. Had about 5L of 12 year old fuel in it. Stank to high heaven and was bright orange. Surprisingly the tank is in good shape and no chunks came out. Will be boiling and blasting it. I've seen Youtube vids where they take some aggregate and shake it about but that just seems too ineffective to me. Quote
d3c0y Posted April 10, 2014 Author Posted April 10, 2014 Yeah thanks guys, the inside of the tank has already been done along with it being baffled, extended in the middle with a central bowl and rear mounted pickup. Just need to make the outside look pretty and my mate said i couldn't spray it with regular paint. This will be nice and easy now Quote
Brabham Posted June 1, 2014 Posted June 1, 2014 What do you guys mean by boiling it? What does this do and who does it? cheers Quote
