red76z Posted February 10, 2014 Posted February 10, 2014 Hi Guys I am trying to find out if there is a thread on cleaning up all un used wired in the engine bay after installing a ls1. I am using a stand alone harness for the motor and I know the wires required to run that. But I want to get rid of all unused fuses and other stuff the original motor required. I am not running any accessories. Your help would be greatly appreciated. Regards Scott. Quote
Linton Posted February 10, 2014 Posted February 10, 2014 Sounds like a bit of a challenge, not knowing what you are or are not using in the loom makes it a tad hard to advise you. most of the loom is required to run lights horns up the front etc, they branch off for alt and coil and air con, the only way to know for sure is to strip the entire loom and follow each wire to the end point and remove whats not hooked up, but that could cause problems somewhere else. you could get rid of the fuses but they are there to protect the system. I have fitted the black conduit to mine it looks nicer than re-wrapping in electrical tape Quote
PeterAllen Posted February 10, 2014 Posted February 10, 2014 Scott - I'm sure this has been discussed on HydridZ somewhere in the Gen III & IV threads but you would have to do a 'search'. http://forums.hybridz.org/forum/74-gen-iii-iv-chevy-v8z-tech-board/ Also, surprisingly to me, there are plenty of Cobras (kits) fitted with LSx engines here in Oz. Here is one thread about LSx harnesses - not sure if your interest is specifically raised but there might be others, again, try 'search'. http://www.clubcobra.com/forums/australian-cobra-club/117086-ls3-ecu-wiring-harness.html I retained the cruise control in mine. I sent mine away to Killa Kustom Auto Electricians (top guy) and had it done - cheap as chips. Quote
PeterAllen Posted February 10, 2014 Posted February 10, 2014 Scott - While you're at it you should relocate the coils, I might be old-fashioned but in my opinion they really detract from the appearance of the engine bay. I relocated mine to the inner guards but you can please yourself where they mount. Quote
red76z Posted February 11, 2014 Author Posted February 11, 2014 Thanks for the reply guys. It looks like it is just a matter of elimination. No one on any thread has a easy way out. the main things I want to get rid of is the fusibal link and altinator reg, coil radio suppressor and any other old motor wires. I will keep every thing to run tne dash lights heater fan radio and all driving lights, everything required to put the car on the road. if possible chop it out otherwise just hide it well. Thanks again Regards Scott Quote
