Air box questions ?

Her is a photo of my air box I just knocked up. It is still in the rough stage and hasn't been welded yet. I am planing on running a Perspex lid so you can still see the trumpets and a pod filter poked through the rad support. "Maybe"

 

My questions are.

Does size matter? Is it to big

Should I taper the back for air flow to the back trumpets 

Is there any thing I am doing wrong

 

It will be tidy up a lot more before it is finished.

I cant imagine it doing any harm, cooler air can only be a good thing. From what I've read the shape can alter flow/performance to the rear carbs but im not sure it would be noticeable on a road car. I like the idea of the Perspex top, it'll be easy to keep an eye on things

I think I will alter it and give it a slight taper. If only for looks lol. Will post up pics later

To ensure even air pressures and flows, at the rear end face, driill and weld on a short piece, 30mm long bit of 1" diam pipe, fit a bit of gauze over it, or some sort of aftermarket rocker cover breather filter.

 

The enclosed airboxes used in open wheeler cars that run a pair of carbs, find that the fitment of a small tube at rear of the airbox gives even air to fuel ratios.

No need to taper the box.

 

It looks like you can fit some 50 mm long trumpets? If not sourced, try to get the ones where the bell mouth wraps right around, like a half donut shape. These give smoother airflow.

Yeh thank mate. I left room for bigger trumpets because I will be getting some later on
