Performance cam

I'm getting my l26 engine rebuilt in the next month or two. Wondering where i could get a performance cam in the Melbourne area, as i tried crow cams in Campbellfield... but there out of stock.

Any help would be appreciated.

I'm interested in what people have to say as I'm also looking at getting a new cam for the L28 I just installed. I've been told by an old Datsun enthusiast there are "WORKS GRIND CAMS" he used back in the 70's!?

Hi,

  I have just recently rebuilt my L26 and got one cam from Stewart Wilkins Rallying and Motorsport in Sydney PH: 02 9444 7022. With the 72 Degree cam I also got reground rockers, new lash pads and new valve springs, and an adjustable cam sprocket. This is for use with the triple Dellortos. For my twin Hitachi/Su carbs I got a regrind from the Camshaft Engineering Company in Perth PH: 08 45772400. Almost the same duration as the Datsun ( C ) cam but more lift. They also reground my spare rockers but I had to get lash pads from Stewart Wilkins for this cam. For the uninitiated always use reground or new rockers and lash pads with a new cam or the old parts will wear it out very quickly. Also one last bit of info. A lot of oils for petrol engines these days don't have ZDDP in them. Without this zinc protection I read on the net that new motors are having wear problems when running in. Particularly cam lobes. All diesel oils still have ZDDP and it was recommended to me to use Caltex Delo 400 for running in, which I have. This can be used for petrol engines. Valvoline racing oil is one of the few oils for petrol engines that have ZDDP. Well that will give you all something to think about. Regards David.

David, what did the the kit you bought from Stewart Wilkins set you back? IE cam, lash pads etc?
