Pedro Posted June 20, 2013 Posted June 20, 2013 bringing the 260z coupe to coldberra. i am wondering is a lighter engine oil better for this climate? eg 10W? cooooold morning starts concern me a bit. what would be recommended - was thinking the penrite line (with the zinc) in a 10W - something. cheers Quote
Pedro Posted June 23, 2013 Author Posted June 23, 2013 Fyi. Went with hpr 10. 10w-50 Seems logical from what I've read elsewhere. I run 15w hpr in Adelaide weather. Quote
dat240z Posted June 23, 2013 Posted June 23, 2013 You will just have to make sure you give the s30 time to warm up properly on those real frosty mornings.... Quote
dat2kman Posted June 23, 2013 Posted June 23, 2013 Ppfffft, Canberra's nothing, Try living up in the Snowy's They have special winter fuel, and run light oils, machinery gets parked outdoors overnight, gotta be goid batteries, fuels and oils to handle that. Couple years back at Targa High Country baded up on Mt Buller, in November!!, just could not get temps in engine, ended up slipping piece of cardboard box half in front of radiator, and ran first couple stages downhill, it eventually got warm! Trucks use roller blind/ shutters to close off airflow. Maybe try a pull up bit of mini blind and a bit of cable over top of radiator running back into cabin. Quote
Six_Shooter Posted June 23, 2013 Posted June 23, 2013 ROFL... Canberra being "cold climate". Looking at the available average temp information, the coldest day would be about that of a spring morning here. I've used 10W30 and 10W40 for years in much colder climates. When I think about it, I usually try to put in 10W30 when it gets close to winter. Quote
dat240z Posted June 23, 2013 Posted June 23, 2013 Now common, my dogs blacker than both of yours........... Quote
Six_Shooter Posted June 24, 2013 Posted June 24, 2013 Now common, my dogs blacker than both of yours........... LOL! Until you wake up and it's minus 20, you're not in a "cold climate". Quote
