DOOM Posted May 25, 2013 Posted May 25, 2013 I'm really getting bored of this auto slush box in my Skyline. I've done my research I know that all L series boxes will bolt right up, how ever im not sure about the 280zx boxes. I've seen R30 stumpy boxes but from what i've read they wont fit C210's. If anything i'd be interested in a 240z/260z/280zx box to buy even a C110(240K)/C210 box. Quote
Ben Posted May 25, 2013 Posted May 25, 2013 Another option, only 2 words; "Shift Kit" Every auto gearbox needs one... Quote
DOOM Posted May 25, 2013 Author Posted May 25, 2013 Im fairly sure I noted I want to buy a manual gearbox. Quote
luvemfast Posted May 25, 2013 Posted May 25, 2013 Im fairly sure I noted I want to buy a manual gearbox. Yes. But you also stated I'm really getting bored of this auto slush box in my Skyline. Some guys here have put a "Shift Kit" In their Z's and love them. You asked. Ben answered. Speak to Scoota Quote
DOOM Posted May 25, 2013 Author Posted May 25, 2013 Well I'd like to go manual, sorry for giving the wrong idea and answering rudely. Quote
pauly_adams Posted May 25, 2013 Posted May 25, 2013 do yourself a favour and buy a rb20det gbox and change the bell housing over to a L series, there is a write up in the gbox section on how to do it Quote
Ben Posted May 26, 2013 Posted May 26, 2013 Now that we're clear that 'stick' is your preferred solution, you may be wondering why the RB20DET FS5W71C box was suggested over the 'standard' FS5W71B conversion. There are a few reasons; 1. Double synchros 2. Newer (therefore, easier to get parts for, and find for sale in the first place) 3. Stronger It's the way to go these days. One day I'll do this conversion to my DR30, but for the time being, the rebuilt FJ20ET box is working just fine. (and in all honesty, I've probably forgotten how the Z drove with the kitted auto. I seem to recall that full throttle shifts were 'fun'... ) Quote
jamo240 Posted May 26, 2013 Posted May 26, 2013 Hey Doom I imported a 280ZX box from Canada a few years back that has the super duper low ratio 5th gearset (~0.746:1 from memory) which gives you 2500RPM at 100km/h with a 3.7 final drive. The aussie ratio is more like 0.86x, and is too low imho for useful street driving. How much do you want to spend for said gearbox?! Jamo Quote

I'f i can,t wait to long ill go down the RB route. Quote
