Have a 71 240 with flange type gearbox and just sorced the proper tailshaft but is about 40mm too short, so the spline is exposed in the slip yoke on the shaft to be bolted up at both ends.

Appears to have an R200 with a quick look, would that swap move the diff flange back about 40mm?

Is there another R200 that will mount the same at the mustache bar it has but moves the flange forward? Or do I have to cut and shut the tailshaft?

Thanks, Ryan

+1 diff mounted wrong. Flip the mustache bar and it will push the whole diff foward. Same shaft is used for r180 or r200.

Will the front diff mount be sweet though? Cause it's bolted up like it is, do I need to swap it for another type? Or does that flip as well

No, dont flip moustache, this pushes diff forward too much, and halfshafts out to wheels are rhen angled backwards, which puts excess steain and possible vibration issues arise.

If it has had a r200 swap, and halfshafts are not angled back,

And,

Tailshaft is too short by 40mm, even allowing approx 20 mm of the slip yoke spline showing, then you will need to have a new tailshaft made up, or the existing one lengthened.

Why not? was probably mounted wrong in the first place as done by many. As they bolt on the moustache bar like how it is on an r180 with the bushes/curls on the rear instead of the front of the mustache bar on a r200.

+1 dat2kman - leave diff mounted as far back as possible & alter driveshaft if req'd; early Zeds notoriously suffered from vibration & shortened-life halfshafts, this was corrected by the factory in subsequent years.
