R200 diff install, tail shaft length

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I'm installing an R200 LSD into my April 1971 240z with an RB20det and R32 gearbox. I've got all the pieces I need: 260z diff crossmember and new mount, half shafts, stub axles, curved rear transverse link, 260z companion flange etc.

Last piece of the puzzle is my tail shaft, which was custom made when the RB20 was installed. How do I measure how long it needs to be? and can I work it out now before the diff is in or just play it safe and measure it up once the diff is installed?

Play it safe and wait until you can measure in the car. Find who you want to do the job and then ask them what measurements they want......every driveshaft shop is different.

Nope.

You need to fit everything up, then do a check measure.

I have a members car here, that had pretty mch same setup, a mechanic bloke had rdered a new tailshaft, based on guesstimates.

Turned out shaft, once bolted, was only engaging splines into gearbox by 10-15mand was rather wobbly!
