DAZDA Posted July 22, 2011 Posted July 22, 2011 Ever wondered how F1 and WRC teams get the most out of each cylinder for every combustion?? By using the spark plug as a knock sensor. They use the spark plug to measure the conductivity of ionised gases during combustion. Different profiles identify different events in the combustion, such as 'knock' or a misfire. For more check out this site. http://delphi.com/manufacturers/auto/powertrain/gas/ignsys/ionized/ I just need to work out how to incorporate this into a Datsun L-series engine EFI system cheaply... nizm0zed Posted July 22, 2011 Posted July 22, 2011 Cheapest way would be to plaster some F1 and sponsors stickers over your car, roll into the pits and hope they dont notice the slightly different body shape Quote
BobsYourUncle Posted July 22, 2011 Posted July 22, 2011 Looks like the sensor itself wouldn't be overly difficult to make. You'd want to have some pretty good protection on the output between it and the computer though. edit: and then of course you need to be able to take advantage of the information it provides... Quote
