From my limited experience when I was looking into purchasing it, the engineer that I called (Victorian) seemed to think there would be no issues with the engine swap as is. For me, assuming the RB30 is roughly the same weight as a L26, you would not need to change your brakes, seatbelts etc as the momentum that the brakes are trying to stop will be the same if you are going 100km/h in a RB vs a L26 motor. For the emissions, it will vary dependent on the type of rego. In Vic, the regulations for club rego are different to that of normal rego (ie club rego is less strict). Bit of an ambiguous answer I know, but try the RMS website for the specifications and regulations. I don't think you would have any issues with such a simple engine swap. -

1977 Datsun 260Z with RB30 (2 Seater) Just a heads up this 260Z will likely be listed on Gumtree or CarSales in the next week or so and I thought I would give the forum members a heads up. The sale fell through with the initial buyer and as I had made a few enquiries prior, I was offered it. I went and inspected the 260Z and test drove it. While I really loved it, I chose to go in a different direction. I asked the seller if I may list it on the forums with his contact details and he was happy for me to do so. Here are some of the details; · 1977 260Z with a N/A RB30 from a R31 Skyline · RS30015208 · Original L26 engine included in sale (L26170597) · Registered in WA until June 16 · Interior – good (centre console needs some work, no visible rust on floor pans or in wheel well, carpet needs replacing) · Exterior – good (I believe original paint, small amount of rust near rear drivers wheel and a couple dints on roof near driver’s door, otherwise in good condition) · Drive – sounds amazing, smooth (for a 40 year old car), lots of fun, does have a rather loud fuel pump (can’t hear once inside) · Electrics – could do with a bit of TLC and tidying up While I’m no expert in Z-cars and only have had the chance to view half a dozen since my brief interest began, this was the best one I have viewed. While not perfect, it is in great condition for what it is and doubt this will last for long. You may contact Dean on 0438376636 (he requested no further calls with regards to this post beyond 24/04/16 - rather refer to CarSales or Gumtree advertisement) https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B58-awC93PMEYmZEVzh3ZG8wTG8 -
Thank you. Just checking there wasn't a change in the numbering system in later models.

Hi, Just hoping to get some clarification from someone who is more familiar with 260Z's than I. I am looking to purchase a 1977 260Z from a seller in Melbourne. However, the documentation indicates the engine number begins with "C26xxxxx" (i.e. The rego papers and the PPSR check) Can I assume this is an error and should be L26? Cheers.

1973 Datsun 240Z. $40k https://www.carsales.com.au/private/details/Datsun-240Z-1973/SSE-AD-3914533 This 240z was fully restored around 2008 and modified to suit the occasional tarmac ralley , hillclimb or track day. It has a 2.8 litre L series engine taken out to 3.0 litre and still running standard looking inlet and ex manifolds and carbies. Standard distributer and other accessories but heavily modified internals producing 149 rear wheel kilowatts. It has a custom built bolt in bolt out roll cage and a cams log book. It uses standard configuraton brakes with upgraded compounds, koni adjustable shocks , and custom springs. the gearbox is a rebuilt later model unit and the diff an original 240 type, the clutch is a semi competition type with a lightened moly flywheel, the combination works well and the car has been driven to every event and home again and never needed a trailer . All modifications are tastefully done and are able to be taken back to standard easily, with the car comes the original standard bore matching numbers 2.4 litre motor. The car has been garaged for about the last 5 years with very little use and probably needs to go to someone that will use it a bit more. -

https://www.carsales.com.au/private/details/Datsun-260Z-1977/SSE-AD-3880127 Well I may not be the best judge of rust. Yes it was kept outside, but the interior under the carpets was very good, but there were a couple spots above the drivers side door which needed attention. -

Yeah, it sold for $16k 2 hours after I had a look at it. It had an RB30 in it and was in very good condition. Barely any rust. Lots of original service books and reciepts too. Disappointed I missed out on it... Is this what you are referring to? Check out this Datsun 260Z. https://www.carsales.com.au/private/details/Datsun-260Z-1977/SSE-AD-3880127 -

Just note that some of those ads can be quite old. Just Cars for example have 240Zs from 2014 still on their website. -

I've been interested in this car and am going to put a bid on it. Will try to organise a time this weekend to have a look. What do mean the effort this car will require? Owner states is virtually rust free in our correspondence.Yeah it needs a coat of paint and a bit of work on the engine, what else do you foresee?
