  1. Hi guys I've been offered a two owner mint coupe back in South Africa. It needs a blow over though, and the price seems quite steep, so I'm not sure if it will be viable. Are they sought after here, and what would a market related price be here in Aus. I'll try and load a few photos tomorrow for reference. If viable, I will have the car painted by the same guys who are doing my Z, but won't do a full restoration. Any comment, advice, opinions welcomed.......
  2. They bead blasted everything.
  3. Thanks. This is my pride and joy though, 9 years to build, every nut and bolt by myself and featured in three magazines:
  4. The csl is next in line for a full resto and is currently stripped. Here are a few photos of the '73 RHD csl that I restored at the same shop and sold earlier this year:
  5. Lots of cash, lol
  6. The motor is now assembled, mated to the box and installed, happy days! The guys are running behind schedule as the car is supposed to ship this week. They tell me it will be ready next week. Hmmm, time will tell.
  7. Ok, so the suspension components are in:
  8. Someone who's in the know gave some great advice one day........
  9. And the slow progress continues. Some more updates. Very happy so far. [/url]
  10. Only issue is that they are cut pile, as loop pile material isn't available in South Africa. If you're OK with that, I can ask for a price on a second set.
  11. As I said earlier, I'd like to keep her which is why I'm going all out to do a great job. Business priorities may force me to sell though. If I do sell, she's not going to be cheap I had my trimmer in South Africa make up and fit a set, he's good, and I trust he will have done a good job. I have kept the original set as well.
  12. This is the part of the build that becomes frustrating. All the small fiddley bits that you have to do before you can fit the big parts. It makes it look as though there is very little progress going on and the project seems stalled. Anyway, dash and carpets are in, and all mechanicals should be done by the end of the week.
  13. Seats have ben tidied up: ....and headlining going in..........
  14. Hahaha, thanks guys! 2 Zeds in a 40ft container, lol. I bought all of the parts from the Z Store in the USA, I'm sure most of you have used them, and i hear the parts are good. The parts I bought for the '71 (Andrews car in Sydney) were from Z Car Source, and they were also OK. On Andrews recommendation, I switched suppliers lol.
  15. It's been a while since I updated, so I thought I'd get around to it. The parts arrived from the USA, and all parts are back from plating, powdercoating etc. Assembly has begun and this is where we were at on Friday last week. Two weeks to deadline, and the ship loading, its going to be tight! Ceramic coated the headers as well, makes a huge difference once when you open the bonnet.
  16. one on Facebook in Canberra: https://www.facebook.com/groups/293023837407314/permalink/1023631257679898/
  17. As a matter of interest, there were no marks to show that this car ever had door mirrors. Earlier on in the post, we were discussing the UK spec cars and mirror positioning. This was definitely a UK delivered car with wing mirrors.
  18. We went with what the computer spat out as the correct code, and it looks right, so who am I to argue with BASF?? lol
  19. So, the final coat of Safari Gold has been painted and the car is out of the spray booth. I must say that I am happy with my choice of colour. The car is looking really good so far!
  20. OK, so body all primed and now being prepped for paint - Safari Gold, here we come........
  21. Its quite tough to find the right car in South Africa without having contacts there. Most cars are badly misrepresented and a lot of them have been badly repaired. Rust is a menace in the coastal areas. The SSS versions have often been modified and may not have the original motors in them. It will be quite difficult to find a really clean original one. They are out there, but you will have to sift through a lot of rubbish beforehand. I don't want to come across as being very negative, but I have been burned a few times myself. I can maybe try and help if you let me know what you are looking for?
  22. I'd like to keep this one, which is why I'm going all out on it. Business success (Auto Hotel) or lack thereof will be the determining factor I suppose. The labour is much cheaper in South Africa. This whole job complete with parts will come in at under $20k. That includes new rims, tyres, ceramic coating the exhaust manifold, head job to ensure it can run unleaded etc, etc, etc.... Because I know the guys there so well and trust their work unsupervised, I am considering sending some high $$$ cars back for refurbs. Can send them there and bring back for about 60% of what it costs here.
  23. Yes, I stopped the car there en-route from Zimbabwe. I wouldn't be able to afford all of this over here :-(
  24. The bodywork will be finished and primed today and the car fully resprayed by the end of next week. Gav240Z, you'll be pleased to know that I have decided on Safari Gold, so by the end of next week, I should be in a position to post a few photos of the shell in its new livery :-) I just confirmed an order with ZStore for $4,000 worth of parts to do justice to the new paintwork. The car is not going to be concourse, but near as dammit. The plan is to have the car full completed by the second week of December and on a ship to land here by the end of January 2016. I cant wait!
