  1. Yeah it should look good and I picked up some good running gear for it so I will be able to start putting it together once it comes back from paint I already had the seats redone. I think I will do the front end first when I get it back I want to buy some coilovers for it what are the ones like off ebay any one have any recommendations on coilovers, thanks Michael.
  2. I got it back I am seeing the painter on monday afternoon. Looks much better than the flared and sunroof car it started as.
  3. Try brake fluid I used it on a motor bike engine that was really seized worked perfect you will see it if you google it others have used it with success I had it recommended to me and I didn't care about the motor any way but it worked spot on, thanks Michael.
  4. Yeah and you would think a young guy like myself would like the flairs etc but I am a fan of original clean looking cars I want some better wheels than the ones on it though I was thinking black 5 spoke or minilites. It was a pain the way the flairs were done as they cut the lip right off on the rear quarters so my panel beater made the lip again and my front guards were to far rusted so I got some second hand ones they still took a fair whack to get fully straight and rust free, thanks Michael.
  5. I have had a lot of work done since I posted this fibreglass flares gone 70's sunroof gone and roof replaced. I had the indicator holes patched in the guards recently it was soda blasted and it is due to be painted sooner or later there was quite a bit of rust somewhat hidden from the fibreglass flares etc around the boot and taillights all the usual areas they go. It is being resprayed a pearl white not triple layer though it was originally white but I don't have the original motor so I bought an l26 with triple mikunis to fit is was originally a manual black interior white car, thanks Michael.
  6. Yeah I bought that motor so I hope it is all right I want to put it into my 240z that is being resprayed. The reason the seller pulled the motor was he had another z that had been written off but he wanted to keep his injected running gear so I am happy that I got the motor for mine as I was going to buy webers and do all the work to my old non matching motor any way and my trans needed rebuilding and I am doing another car so it saved me a lot I hope it is a good runner that won't need to much work to it. The motor is back in my shed in Geelong sitting in front of my other car waiting for my z to be painted, thanks Michael.
  7. Thanks for that I will see what it is going to cost to get my 240 one rebuilt I am going to buy some triple webers for it after the motor is built too, thanks Michael.
  8. I have my 240z motor out of the car it was running but I want to rebuild it or replace it as it is not the matching numbers motor any way any one have any ideas are there crate motors available I am in Geelong Vic but I can travel to Melbourne no dramas if there is some where good a crate motor I think would be great but are they available? At the moment the car is at my panel beaters and he has fixed the guards so the fibre glassed on flares are gone and also so is the crappy 70's sunroof I will have to get the gear box rebuilt but I know a good place here to do that I just need the motor sorting out.
  9. I am doing up my 72 240z I got it all soda blasted a while ago and today we smashed the fibreglass flares off any way they had fibreglassed over rust so the guards are ratty they also cut the wheel arch so is there any where I should try to find them or I would settle for bolt on metal flares are there any metal flares about or are the all fibre glass, thanks Michael.
  10. LPG is good although I'd never have a dual fuel car you have to choose one or the other my new xr6 ute eco lpi is great you get stacks of range this is the 4th dedicated gas ute we have had and we worried a bit about range. But like you say we never go on really long trips and even if you do I can get 600km's easy and it gives you plenty of warning before hand I set the trip all the time whenever I get to 450 I just fill it I have probably 100km left that is around town stop starting driving on a trip you get heaps better mileage.
  11. G'day, Thanks plans for the car are to redo a lot get the motor and trans done respray new interior and new suspension and fix the steering and brakes up. The guards are flared a bit need to sort them out because the paint is cracking around them so I will know what I am looking at when I get the car blasted, thanks Michael.
  12. Thanks yes I will keep the pics coming I might pull the motor out this weekend and start to strip the car a bit to get ready for blasting, thanks Michael.
  13. G'day, Thanks yes very happy my uncle gave it to me very good of him he doesn't have to worry though I will never sell it and this way it gets restored and he will get to drive it again. Definitely needs work the pic makes it look a bit better it is presentable but needs interior doing the dash has cracks and seats need a reskin etc etc but it is all complete and the motor and gearbox will need doing as well as getting a respray there are some cracks around the flares so they will need sorting too but should be no drama I am thinking I will go a really high gloss red almost like ferrari red.
  14. G'day, My name is Michael I am 19 and a Plumber from the Geelong area and my uncle gave me his first car a 240z to restore I also have a valiant charger with a 360v8 I am going to restore and my dad has a xc coupe and a xy sedan but I joined to find out info on parts and the 240 in general I am also in to 70's and 80's motorbikes. Here is a picture of the 240. I was surprised how much go it has in a straight line it was a bit reluctant to corner and the suspension but that is all going to need replacing it has sat in his shed for 20 years it is a manual I found the gear box a bit hard to get used to maybe because it needs a linkage kit and reco it feels pretty loose and when it goes into gear you aren't sure if it has dropped in. I am going to get the motor out soon I have my own hoist and I will get it rebuilt and maybe buy some webers too. One question I have is should you be able to drop back to 1st while moving or will the box not allow that?
