  4. Drove the road between Cairns and Pt Douglas on Tuesday. Not the most challenging road out, but still a nice amount of twisties. And man is it beautiful! Rainforrest on one side, ocean on the other.
  5. finally got to pick up my zed tuesday last week, so heres a bit of a run down of the history and what has happened so far! (taken from my intro thread before i saw the car) The story goes that it belongs to my best mates girlfriends uncle. It is a 260z 2+2, 5 speed that was last rego'd in SA god knows how many years ago before it was taken across the border last year where began to be restored. The L26 was shagged so an L24 was installed, the car was rewired, new tyres fitted and other odds and ends to get it ready for road worthy. He decided to sell before it got a rwc so upon hearing the price I called dibs. The aim for the car is to do a pretty nice job or a restoration over a couple years. I want to keep the traditional '70's styling but upgrade suspension, brakes, lights and performance. Coilovers and bigger brakes will be first followed by body work (rust removed, guards cut and flares fitted), respray, wheels, then RB20DET most likely. (as of today having had the car for a week) last tuesday i got the call to say that the car had arrived at the depot so i left work early and ducked upto motor reg to grab some plates and then i went to pick up the car! it was different to what i was expecting to say the least lol. first thing that struck me whas that it was using functional bonnet pins (later found out that the home made air filter was stopping the bonnet from closing properly...). it also has "nissan" stenicled on the bonnet and "260z" stenciled on the hatch in black. riiight.... interior inspection found that the ignition had been relocated to the home made center console where a "start" button had also been wired up. there is a digital voltmeter in one of the top pods, and a digital temperature gauge with other functions by the radio. there are switches galore, most of which i have no idea what they do. also found that the L24 in it is a single carb version that has a leak right onto my extractors after a week i found a blanket in the back that was wrapped around another intake manifold with twin carbs on it so that may go on eventually. the car was running terribley, flat spots all the way upto about 3000rpm then it would kind of run ok. it was using heaps of fuel and running real rich. i picked up a second hand carby and a rebuild kit and rebuilt the carby in hope of that fixing the problem. unfortunately it runs worse than before now... i picked up some new plugs today as the current ones are black as the ace of spades, so im *hoping* that will be the cause of the problem. other than that i dont really know what to do. the distributer looks ok, and all the leads seem fine. there are no vacuum leaks anywhere, and there dont appear to be any more fuel leaks. fuel pump could be stuffed i guess, or there could be a problem some where with the previous owners crazy fuel system (pics of that to come). ontop of all this the body is in fairly poor shape, with previous attempts to bog rust cracking under the paint. i may be in over my head on this one but at this stage all i want to do is get it running so i can enjoy driving it for the next couple weeks before i move interstate.
  6. Kay street doesnt ring a bell, but i cant actually remember what road it was on. got a phone call on tuesday saying the car had arrived, so i nicked off from work to go get it. the only thing more interesting than the car itself was the drive home. i'll get to that, but the car first! got to the depot and the guy went to go grab it. 10 mins later he finally pulls up in it saying "took me the entire time to work out how to start the bloody thing" then walked off. turns out the ignition has been relocated to the centre console and a start button has been added bonnet pins, a digital volt meter and a digital thermometer have also been installed which i was unaware of. driving home i couldnt see anything at all out the rear due to the amount of smoke bellowing out the back, and pulling into my drive i could smell rediculous amounts of fuel. i found a fuel leak from the carby pissing straight onto the extractors theres a whole heap more but i'll start a build thread when i get home and go into more detail, as well as add photos. long story short, in an hour im going to be on my way to pick up my freshly rebuilt carby and fiit it so i can *hopefully* go for a drive...
  7. I notice you are from Traralgon? Thats actually where I am buying mine from. I had never even heard of the place until the other week lol. In related news, The car is getting picked up today for transport! should be in adelaide on Tuesday - I cant wait!
  8. Chain of Ponds (very scenic), Gorge Road, and Corkscrew Road are all very good (albeit short) roads around the Adelaide hills.
  9. Oh really? Any chance you would be able to PM the details? I would rather check them out in person than buy from interstate.
  10. Oh yeah, pics will come as soon as I get it! At the moment I'm just trying to take in as much information from this site as possible, there is so much to learn haha. The tech section is a credit to you guys though, much better than any other car related forum that I've been a member of!
  11. Thanks for the warm welcome fellas, it is appreciated! The reason I was thinking going the RB20 is that I am familiar with them after having one in my old skyline, and I just looooove the sound! However I am aware of the positives that the SR has, so a long way down the line when it is time for the engine swap I will be weighing up the options and going for the most practical. A quick question though about the flares that are sold by alpha fibreglass, are they the ZG style and will they fit a 2+2 no dramas? I would love to get some flares fitted, guards cut and new wheels before I'm back in town for a week in November. Can't hurt to start planning now can it?
  12. G'day, My name's Coxy and I'm a 24 year old currently residing in Adelaide. I have just purchased my first zed and am currently awaiting its delivery from Mexico (Victoria ) Previously I have owned a couple R31 skylines (both ADM and JDM), and Evo VII, and my current bus is a jacked up '04 hilux. I have been thinking for ages of getting another 31 coupe as I love classic Jap styling, but I never really thought I would be going another 15ish years older again! The story goes that it belongs to my best mates girlfriends uncle. I have yet to see the car in person and I have no idea the rust and everything is going to be, but he assures me it's drivable haha. Where it gets interesting is that I have just accepted a new job and I'll be moving to Darwin in 7 weeks, so by the time the car gets here (next week hopefully) I wont have a whole heap of time to have a play. But hey, at this stage these are all pipe dreams! I havent even seen the car yet and who knows how many times i'll change my mind over the years! while i'm in darwin the car will remain in adelaide. I wold love to keep it in running condition so my Dad can drive it when he wants, and run it in the bay to birdwood etc. I'll move this post to the journal section afteri get to see the car in person. thanks for reading
  13. 24 and just awaiting delivery of my first zed next week
