  1. Adam, What a truly inspirational thread, it has taken me months to read through it, but your continued attention to detail is just outstanding and I'm sure will help myself and many others on their Z journeys.... Thank you for taking the time to keep us all informed on your progress. Steve.
  2. Well a couple of busy weeks behind me and its time to get stuck into the project.... I know its only early but so far this week its been a bit of a roller coaster, last Friday i get told "take a week off, we have no work on next week" so that's a bit of a high right, then sunday night comes along and i run into a buddy of mine that knows I'm making a start on the datsun, he asks me if i saw the add in Saturdays paper for the 240 z rolling chassis/bodies (x2) and assorted parts.... no i hadn't, thinking this will be great, cut a whole heap of money and time out of my build, he gets me the paper and i call the number, its Mick from Dover and hes downsizing on gear he had but i was too late, both bodies sold to the first bloke that rang up, he'd lost my number from previous attempts id made to purchase a body from him and couldn't get in touch with me....so that was my first downer. I get up this morning and decide today's the day i am going to fire up the old thing before i remove the motor, so i clean the points, rotor and distributor cap, replace the spark plugs, hook up my jumper battery, snap off the perished fuel hoses, flush a bit of fuel through the carbs and turn the little gem over, wind wind wind then.....broom, after 4 or 5 seconds of winding it fires back into life, after 25 years of sitting under a tree without so much as turning it over, its back... wow what a motor. (my second high) So ten or so seconds later i shut it down and after a couple of minutes of high fiving myself and grinning from ear to ear, i decide id better just fire it up again, wind wind wind no joy, (my last downer) hmmm.... so i removed a plug and now for some strange reason i have no spark, removed distributor cap cleaned everything checked the points put it all back together and i still have no luck.... Now excuse my ignorance but points etc are a little out of my knowledge base, have not really ever had a need to know about them until now... what is the purpose of the condenser? Could this be or contribute to my sudden lack of spark? Any other ideas as to where i should be looking?

  10. Hi all, well I'm finally in a position to start doing something with the 240 z i acquired some months back... However now I'm concerned its going to be a little over my head, I'm a mechanic but I've had no experience with bodywork etc..(very eager to learn tho) Have a look at these pictures...... Ps: i know of a 280z 2+2 available for parts obviously very different bodies however would the floor pans etc be similar enough to replace mine?? Any info/input greatly appreciated. Regards Steve.

  12. ha, thanks. yeah was thinkin about the v8 conversion, just toying wuth some ideas at the moment. everyone seems to be doing it tho... are most original parts hard to come by these days? well i she's not exactly sitting in my shed at the moment however it is just a matter of cleaning the shed and organising a car trailer to pick her up....so nearly!!!
  13. hi all, just thought i'd join up and read some general banter and get some ideas about these great cars before i get my hands on a original 240z... (masive project car). always been a fan but never had the oppertunity to own one. i am a big muscle car fan however i am undecided about restoring this great beast to its glory or to just go all out and build a muscle car... general opinions?? anyway you have a great site here and i'm sure i'll get some good information and some great contacts out of it. Thanks Steve.
