  1. Would be a real shame to junk the car. Has to be someone who wants a 2+2. Seriously. I know it is not a 2 seater, but scrapping is still NOT cool. Not unless it is a total rust bucket. Yours seems to be quite clean being a 78 and all that. Anyone? I have a 2+2 already...so I am no help....
  2. Just letting you guys know - I appear to be making some progress on this. I think someone here (nzeder maybe) has mentioned this before, but apparently there is someone in japan modifying a suzuki electric steering column to suit the Zeds. Comes as a kit with all the mods/fabrication done. I have contacted an agent who believes he can get these, so I am waiting for price/ship costs etc. Will let you know more when I find out. 620z - cheers about the V8 info. Long term I am considering installing a V8 - although recent advice suggests that it can create a few problems and ongoing vehicle maintenance can be an issue (eg snapped drive shafts etc). I will be PM'ing at some point for advice about such things if that's ok? Will leave V8 stuff for another post though! Cheers.
  3. Well I do want to lower my car - add larger wheels and...eventually...install a V8. Oh yes. Regardless of what I do later - I would still like to try this electrical steering now tho. BTW - Of topic, but I thought the SB Chevs (common Z V8 conversion) were pretty similar weight to the L series 6 anyway?? Installing one should not increase weight and steering too much should it? Would be interested getting info on that... Anyway - for those who do not understand the need for assisted steering....they have never had to listen to my girl friend complaining. Ease up!
  4. I understand where you are coming from, however it appears that a few Zeds have this electronic kit. That subi conversion look like a right pain in the "you know what" of a job. Lot's of machining and work to get it all happening. Not to mention crossmember modification I am not real keen ok. http://www.unisteer.com/mm5/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=UNISTEER&Product_Code=8051500&Category_Code=PERFELECTRASTEER I checked the manual for this particular product and it is rated for cars up to 1200kg. The Zed 2+2 is a little under that weight I believe. Considering it is a USA product made for hotrods - which I am assuming have larger block heavy style engines hanging out front, you would think it would be designed to handle heavy steering load yeah? More research I reckon.....that guys on hybrid Z seems to have his fitted and works well....
  5. Also got this response from another mob. They provide the ECU kit (which provides information to column for correct steering feedback) along with the electric steering column (they do Suzuki AND Corsa). $250euro. "Hi, I'm afraid I do not do any fitting kits for cars. I can provide you with a column & controller kit which consists of an opel corsa or suzuki wagon R column, all pre-wired to my EPS controller and all wiring you need to do is connect 2 wires to the battery and 1 wire to the ignition switch. I sell these kits for 250 euro plus postage. However, you would need to do the mechanical fitting yourself. The only people I know who do the full fitting kits only do them for VW campervans and Ford escort Mk2 cars. For basic photos of the columns see the link below: http://www.rallywiz.com/Column_ECU_photos.htm Regards, Don Giles. www.rallywiz.com"
  6. Oops. Forgot the link - http://www.ezpowersteering.nl/index.php?lang=uk And another.....$900+ US tho! http://www.unisteer.com/mm5/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=UNISTEER&Product_Code=8051500&Category_Code=PERFELECTRASTEER
  7. Nice. Also found this site....they already have one made up for the 240z. Will suss out how much they charge for it.
  8. Keen as to find suitable alternative. Suzuki Wagon R? The bits might be tricky to source here in Oz. Ok. So steer clear of GM altogether? Damn. I was thinking this would be the way to go seeing as Barina from 94+ apparently had a re-workable electric steering setup. There has to be someone local who has given this a crack....hope so.
  9. No offense taken. Look - in an ideal world - old skool power steering would be great. That is if I had a garage and space to work in and get it all together. I am tooled up, but since moving in with my GF - have nowhere to work (prob won't for some time either). Going old skool is a pretty big job in anyone's book - definitely need working space. So - a "bolt in" steering solution that might help me get the missus in the car without complaining certainly is attractive to me. Definitely like to give it a go anyway.
  10. Hi guys, I know - this is a VERY old thread, however my search found nothing new on the same 'electric steering" subject. Looking into options to lighten up the steering on a Z. My research has led me to all sorts of places, however the easiest conversion would appear to be electric. http://www.thezgarage.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=5977&sid=76cb57e9d45ab4d99d77ba7ce1330028 This particular post was interesting. Is there some sort of "pre-fabricated" conversion kit that utilises an electric motor from a Barina/Corsa? This under-dash style conversion appeals to me. Does anyone have further info? Apparently someone in Japan was selling these already made up for the Z, but my initial look into Yahoo.co.jp yielded nothing like that. Curiouser and curiouser :-\ and yes - I know that is not a real word...
  11. Emailed the Dad today - apparently car SOLD yesterday. How much? Apparently for "close" to the asking price. Cheers.
  12. bwaahahaha! Nice one. Ah well....gotta love a guy with ambition. Now all I have to do is find a knackered and rusted out 240z shell! Should be able to get at least 15K for it. Easy. Jokes aside, I suppose these things are the early signs of what is to come. A good thing for Z owners. Not so good if you are still hunting for the right one like me. *sigh* Patience Shan, patience.
  13. $85K. Pffffffft. As if. Don't get me wrong - I love a good Z, but $85K??!?? What's he smoking?
  14. Sent an email to him asking a few questions and discussing price - normal stuff. No response though.
  15. PM sent. Give me a call.
  16. Thanks for the comments guys. As for scam? Yeah - I think not. Have spoken to the owner quite a bit. The car exists (I had it inspected by a local mechanic), have even spoken to the guys wife a few times. Pretty confident it is no scam. He should have waited for the final payment before killing the deal if it was. Simple fact is he has done a serious 180. Had been sitting in his shed for ages, but getting behind the wheel again reminded him how much fun the car was. He wants to keep the car and after discussing it with his wife - she wanted him to keep it also. Nothing I can do. Really, REALLY dissapointed though. As far as going legal - I did not know that was an option. Do not think I would want the karma to be honest. I believe he is not selling it to anyone else, and the last thing I would want to do is forcefully take the keys of his "precious" out of his clutched fist via legal means Things happen for a reason I suppose.
  17. *sigh* I had a 2 door 260z all lined up for purchase. Had been looking for a while and this car was pretty much everything I wanted. Was REALLY happy with it. Very clean, nice mods, good price for the work done on it. Sooooo.... After paying a $200 deposit, then transferring another 10K today, the owner has pulled out of the sale. Apparently getting back behind the wheel and being more involved with the car in general during the sale process (which admittedly I dragged out a little) - made him realise how much he loves the car. Decided he wants to keep it. Normally I would think the seller had received a better offer, but in this case I am inclined to believe his excuse. He is not the kind of guy to BS. He indicated a couple of times that he was having second thoughts. Tried talking him around, but he is seriously not budging. Should have jumped on it faster...ah well. So he is refunding the 10k+ deposit I have paid. My search - therefore - continues..... :'(

    Front grilles?

Well - I can't supply any photos - cause I do not have a grille yet :'( However, if posts are correct 240z and 260z can use same grille. Slight modification for screw holes is all that would required. Nothing major. Pic's of various grilles would certainly be helpful though.

    Front grilles?

You could be right. I understand that the 432 grill could be slightly different. Is definitely a 240z grill - perhaps from japenese market (with they had the mesh style). Still need to know which grilles will fit (or at least are most likely to fit) the 260z 2 seater. Cheers.

    Front grilles?

Hi guys, Can someone confirm for me which grilles are suitable for a 1975 260z 2 Seater? Can I use earlier 240z Grille? Can I use a 432 grille (which I may be able to get my hands on)? Or 260z 2+2? Cheers!
  21. Cheers Zedman. I know they will be easy enough to make, but I am living in "inner city" accomodation at the moment, so getting to business with angle grinders and such can be a little difficult. Added to that, I have NO idea of the exact size and shape required....
  22. That was easy. $155.00 for front and same for back. Will paint them in black gel coat as well. Nice. Only catch is I gotta find the brackets for front bumper...or make them I suppose. Should not be too hard.... If anyone is melb has a set of front bumper brackets lying around - could save me the trouble tho! Let me know. Cheers.
  23. Sweeeet. Cheers Rev.

    Bumper bars...

Hey lurch - thanks for the response. I am curious to know why Phil's is a "no go"? Handy being in oz and price seems reasonable for new item. Is it rubbish or are they unreliable? Let me know ok. Cheers.
  25. Hi guys, Lurch was kind enought to point me to ebay for some replacement bumpers....they look great - pricey though. Can anyone assist in providing me with front and rear bumpers? Fibreglass is ok. Prefer melbourne, BUT interstate may also be ok depending on price. Cheers.
