Just looking around for something to cover up all those massive cracks in the dash for a while, while I fix up more major problems that stop me from spending up on a dash re-skin. any floating around? or is there somewhere recommended to find one? cheers, Scott
-
just putting the question out there.... does anyone know how to get to the little nut that tightens up the side mirror???? tried for about an hour to get to it, with a couple of extenders on the ratchet, and that fancy head that twists in different directions, still couldn't get it. driving me crazy that mirror loose :-\

looks sweet I'm the third Scott on here your hearing about. should come on down to canberra, confuse everyone now i have to polish up my z to match that one ( tomorrow's job) -
sure thing my battery's still thanking you Hey, if two of you fly in, you can get a twin scott, twin silver, twin 260z lift somewhere how sweet would that look
-
sounds like a cool idea I've got a whole one seat spare if someone needs a lift from canberra, a good Z chat is always a good thing

no chance! hey, out of curiosity, anyone know why their prices went through the roof?
-
my oil pressure is reading 0 (which is never good) in the dash, and the previous owner thought it might have been the sensor. So, if there's one laying around out there, or if you think it might be something else giving me 0 ( and there is oil in there, beleive me, i check alot) any help would be greatly appreciated

yeah, the GTHO's went through the roof!!! dad owned a completely stock XU-1 a while ago, bought it for bugger all. they've jumped to nearly $100,000. he's none too happy. I'm definitly going with you on that one. It's what was running through the back of the mind, but i've seen ppl on this forum jump at the idea of mod-ing out an original. I've started up quite a chat here :-)

hmmm, very valid points. yeah, DE- rusting, sorry. not out there straying it down with salt water I was thinking an RB 20DET, couple of other bits and pieces, which might/could include some irreversible mods. as with upgrading interior, apart from storing seats, radio and steering wheel ( authentic, but a b*&ch to drive with) most of the old stuff wouldn't be much good trying to put it back later on. this a problem? am I thinking too much of the originality of it? It definitly wants to be driven around! tell it your thinking of garaging it, and it runs terribly! but serious, it knows what i'm thinking :-\

hey all. It's come to my attention that the car I have bought is becoming quite rare. rare in the fact that all the numbers match in the engine bay, complince plates (including the facory stickers of bits n pieces in the engine bay), original steering wheel, under the dash wiring untampered, radio, carbies, wheels, interior unmodified, even a rare side mirror, which I was told was a very sought after piece. At this point, there is no way in the world I will modify this car, with the amount of comments it's receiving about being untouched. Starting to get a bit paranoid about driving it. I do, however want a Z I can do up, redo interior, engine, bit of body work. my eventual plan was to strip the car right back to bare metal, and get all rust and gunk cut out of it, and revive the car, but i don't like my chances of pulling everything out without breaking something, and getting it all back in there the way it was. don't have the funds to get another Z and garage the one I have. well, i'm off to give it a good re-rusting What are your thoughts??
-
hey nizm0zed, yeah, if you've got one, i'd love to grab it off ya are you coming to the meet up tomorrow? if not, send us over some details and i'll get in touch
-
well, got the weld back today, can't even tell where the patch is did the whole area with a rust guard, very neat work. Highly recommended. rego tomorrow!!!
-
hmmmmm... fair enough. how will that work with the existing wiring ie, lead to the reg at the moment?
-
thanks Mr240 for the list, i might give them a rind yep, that's the one, behind the bracket, with a six pin plug? i think? If you could, that would be excellent

Looking around for a Bosch BVR -811 volt reg. it's a seperate unti from the alternator itself. Mine got cooked when the alt. died, and auto pro tell me that they've stopped making replacements
-
sweet, i'll have to give this guy a ring, sounds like the go. i'm getting the work done by : mark oliver 0412390697 28 Wycombe st QBN he's pretty friendly, and mate's reckon he's really good, so we'll see how it goes. could have alot more work coming his way

well, i may as well just set the vic check on fire all hoses, bushes, rod ends passed... i go knocked back on one brake light is a bit dim ( c-mon.....) the battery isnt secured properly ( old battery holder is 1. too big for the new battery 2. not in the best of conditions to hold it there. also found a rust hole in the floor, which is getting repaired wed for $100 ish, so friday looks like a go for me! when i first rocked up, i parked off to the side, and when i got called up to drive in, i was there for about a minute trying to start the thing!! mechanic is there just staring at me with a " are you serious??" look going on. i'm quietly begging the car to turn over, which it did, finally. After that, its a first turn of the key and she's off and flying. also, are there any recommended mechanics around town that know carbies? exaust smells like its running rich, not running very smoothly either.
-
i'll definitly be pushing to get it ready before then, don't you worry yeah, was just using the vic inspection as a guide, try and cover some of the possible problems i might run into, but i couldnt get any of the major parts to replace in time anyway . I'm hoping for a pass, but preparing to get knocked back for something. once the check is passed i can walk straight in and get plates. got CTP all paid for and waiting, even fully comped on it already, just need the tick.
-
yeah, before i got there the guy had an inspection done, in vic ( dont know if that makes any difference) and that was the list i was given. going in tomorrow afternoon for an inspection check. meanwhile, i've got some of the parts i need on order, tie rod ends, volt reg. anywhere i can get this thing up in the air so i can scrub up underneath? keen to give it a good proper doing. also, where can i grab this por15 stuff? sounds like its the go

ahhhh, home sweet home. As far as photo to actual car went, it was pretty much spot on few bits of rust here and there, mainly behind the battery in the firewall...... wonder if we've had that conversation already?? ..... the drive went well. no hose popping, overheats, just a nice smooth drive. only kink in the whole plans was the alternator, and regulator, which were no good. we managed to find an auto elec open (lucky!!!) who sold us a new alt. but couldnt source a reg, but was assured by the guy that the battery would still charge well enough to get us home. car pushed on like a trooper the whole way. began the run in 44 degrees heat. eyes were burning from the heat, but temp stayed steady the whole way. now for the list of things to pass rego : both outter die rod ends both lower ball joint boots swaybar bushes oil leak eninge+gearbox front and rear brake hoses frayed castor rod bushes and clip off brakes missing. figured all the bushes would be about gone, so a bit of shopping tomorrow, hopefully get that sorted asap, so i can drive around V happy

yeah, underneath needs a good looking at. pressure spray sounds like a good idea any recomended rust treatments/prosses? or just a sweet coat of fish oil? still plan on driving it back, slowly we've made a tool kit up, (dad and I - he's my mechanic) and will be taking it real easy, problems expected. yeah, I haven't let myself get too worked up about everything just from the photos, expecting a bit of gloss to be missing when i get there, but i've been longing for this car for ages, so no matter what, i'm stoked! In QBN, you?
-
hey, just got some more pics of the car. what are your thoughts? sorry about the size just spent a good 20 minutes trying to resize
-
yeah, a thought did come up RE. hoses and lines. say a hose does decide that it's had enough of all this car nonsense and pops, what are my options? quick fixes? should i do some shopping before i leave for parts? I intend to replace most of those wearable parts soon, but for now, whats my best bet?
-
yeah, i'll come along what time?
-
cool, sounds like a great trip. hope i'm able to fit
