  1. Are the 300lb King springs progressive or linear? What about Tokico springs?
  2. I'm after advice on which lowering coils springs to buy for my car (25-30mm). Any advice. I don't want it to ride like choco's VL. I want a progressive rate spring that delivers the goods in ride quality with my adjustable Konis. Not too hard edge. I can buy King springs for $160 pair through Bursons or get some Eibachs from the US for a lot less. There may be something better; what are they? Tokico Tanabe What will match my Koni sports. They must also complement my 16x7 Rota's with 205/55/16. Thanks
  3. Well here they are. Bought a set of 16 x 7 ROTA RB Wheels with a 4mm offset Bought them from 18racing in the US via seller wheelbay on ebay. $1000 delivered Fitted them with Goodyear F1 tyres 205/55/16. $850 fitted Here's some photos. No rubbing. You would not be able to go any larger without flares; or having the tyres protrude beyond the body.
  4. Yes; but you have to freight them to Australia. There is a mob in Sydney bringing them in for $1000 a set. This is a reasonable deal.
  5. First I'd like to thank you for guiding me to the right part location for my pistons. I live in Melbourne's north. Must have been quaffing a red at the time to put it in the wrong forum.. Sorry didn't mean to offend anyones fragile morality. I have previously restored Holden/Ford V8 vehicles and found hundreds of different part suppliers for basic drivetrain items at competative prices. No such luck with the L series donk. Now I realise the 240-280 Zed is a tad more exclusive and low volume in Oz than a 351 or a 308. What I have found is due to the local cottage industry nature of Zed suppliers; prices are often quite high; which has driven me to source a lot of stuff from the USA where sales volumes were high. Granted these entrepreneurs have to make a livng from a minimal number of sales. Some Zed resto bits sold locally are 100's of percent dearer than the USA. Factor in freight and profit and it becomes quite unreasonable. I base this on 26 years of enthusiastic vehicle resto from big Healeys to Munros and GT's.
  6. Okay Dokey. I have an L28 to rebuild. I need 40 thou oversize flat top pistons for the rebore/hone. Where in Australia do I buy these? A local engine builder quotes just over $200 the set if he builds my engine for me. He imports them from Japan. Repco only has dish pistons. Is there a piston commonly used in Australia that does the job? And NO I don't want to bore the #%^k out of it; or stroke it or whatever. Anyone done a build up lately with some ideas on a piston source that won't ream and bore my bottom end out?
  7. Whoa there Neddy. Rang Essendon Nissan in Melbourne for L28 timing chain kit. Blew me. Timing chain: $120 Tensioner: $66 2 Guides: $76 2 Sprockets: $210 Looks like Nissan Australia will have some rusty junk on hand in 10 years. Checked US Part suppliers (Nissan Surplus). Beck Arnley OEM Kit containing All bits = $104 minus postage No wonder I'm avoiding buying Z stuff locally like the plague. There's profit and then there's wanton scraping of my rear end. The internet rocks. Thanks guys.
  8. I've got an F54 L28 block. I'd like a proper true roller chain; guids; cog kit. Any soul out there know who; where and how much they go for. I contacted a mob called Romac in South Australia; but they nolonger make them due to a lack of demand. Will only make a run of 50: Bollocks I said. Any clues?
  9. Thanks Mick74. I want to maintain the correct look of my car and most threads always head off into the how big can I fit scenario. By choosing 16 x 7 I aim to keep the period look of my car as far as a higher profile tyre and open up the range of tyres I can use/afford. Thing is Commodore and Falcon now use 16 inch rims so availability is good.
  10. There are lots of threads about lots of wheels; Rota; Watanabe;Performance;Konig I have a 260Z coupe. Okay I need a simple answer. I want to fit 16x 7 wheels with no rubbing or fouling or body modifications or lip bending. I want to fit 205 55 16 tyres I am looking at the Performance Superlite wheels in this size. The brouchure says 12P and a 112 backspace. Will this wheel / tyre combination work with no rubbing? What is the ideal offset backspace for a 16 inch wheel that will allow the best fit of tyre. Another thread said Roto RB - R 16 x 7 +4 I need a simple answer and someone that may well have a set of Performance 16 x 7 Superlites on their 260Z or another brand of wheel in this size that fits and work with NO hassles. Photo appreciated. Thanks S30 06/76 Koni - triple webber - 72 works cam - Std spings
  11. Which external rear vision mirror should my 260Z have. Is it like the chrome 240Z or is it a plastic pointy nosed oned sort of like an XA-XC Falcon?
  12. It lists chassis numbers for the 260Z 2+2 from 10/73 to 11/74. Your chassis number should fall between the date ranges listed
  13. I'm about to replicate the Watanab/Minilite wheel look on my 260Z. Can anyone tell me which wheel size will fit under the Z with NO fouling of guards throughout the whole suspension travel at full tilt. I'm thinking a 15x6 would be just right. Which backspacing? What size tyre? Exceptional value-Made in Australia-Not from Asian aluminium conglomerate metal. http://www.performancewheels.com.au/pdf/superlite.pdf
  14. I got the Aug 1973 date from the shortcut listed above: http://www.300zx.cl/ga/300zx/images/serial%20number%20Datsun%20Z%20Car.htm Within this site there is another link which links VIN/chassis numbers to production dates. Very informative site.
  15. Okay wondrous oracles of ZED; what are the fundamental differences between 240-260-280 5 speed manual gearboxes. Is one stronger than another; do parts interchange; is there better ratios in one. I want to reco one for my Z so I wonder if it's worth tracking down one in particular to restore or sticking with my 260 5 speed. Perhaps a muncie; saginaw; toploader
  16. I have a 260Z with an Australian compliance plate dated 6/76. I have a body number of 10230. It has an early 260Z body. I have checked the USA VIN sheets which lists the production of my Z as being between 8/73 and 8/74. Did this means the body of my Z sat around for quite a while before/after it came to Australia. How does this compare to the Z series in the USA? In 1976 the USA had the 280Z.
  17. 260Z's have longer underfloor support rails. They follow the contours of the floor. Z's had a lot of torsional rigidity problems so Nissan extended the rails in the 260z onwards. Would $1500 be too much to fabricate and instal 2 new support rails given they follow the contours of the floor? Looks complex.
  18. I've checked out a few US sites; but they have 2 floor pans. One up to 1974 1/2 and another after. Which one? I rang most of the Australian Z suppliers; but don't seem to have much luck on the repair section front. The available under floor repair sections only cover half the rail. I have rust in the whole under floor rail. What are other people doing about rail repair? Do I have to spend a fortune for getting one totally fabricated?
  19. Can I buy a full rail repair section for my 260Z 2 seater? Rare Spares - US? My floor is okay but the rails are stuffed. Anybody used the Rare Spares rail repair and if so how long are they? Do they replace front to back? Someone had a go at mine years ago and the repair only went half way along. Alternately I'm in Melbourne. Anyone out there supply and fit the whole LH/RH rail sections so that I can't tell it's been replaced? I don't want a bodgey job. Reply or reply to my email banana@aanet.com.au
  20. Thanks. I think our 260Z got 240 Z bumpers/overriders. So much cheaper buying from the States and airmailing back. Like to buy local but too much markup in a lot of stuff. Thank goodness for the internet; ebay and paypal. Woo hoo!
  21. Does anyone know if the 260Z has the same front and rear bumper as the 240Z The reason I ask is I am going to buy rubbers from the US; but the 260Z only went till 1974-5 in the US and it had bigger rubber overriders. So do I order 240Z rubbers? I've looked at the Black Dragon site and it looks like our 260Z's had the 240 Z bumpers.
  22. So does anyone know what has happened to Z WorX. Is it still a going concern or has it hit the wall through good Z work but incompetent management? If it is a gonna then someone will have bought all their gear. C'mon; the Z crowd is tight so someone will know where Warren - Justin is with the business. If it's a gona then I will have to look for parts elsewhere.
