The standard wheel centres are as new...........vary hard to find. Perfect for the restoration of any 240/260 Get them out of my garage .... I need the space...............sale price $180 or make me an offer can be seen in Mentone Call Alan 0410 511320
  3. VHT make a "Chevy Blue" engine block enamel which looks identical to the Nissan Blue used on 70-76 engine blocks............you can pick it up at Super cheap or Autobarn. cheers Alan
  4. Joel The tyres are no longer road worthy but still OK to any track work. I am in Mentone, give me a call if you want to come and take a look. Give me a call on 0410 511 320 cheers Alan
  5. Rev Give Lou Mondello a call on 9555 9591 or 0412 282441 Lou has been rebuilding Datsun U20 roadster engines for the last 15 years but has a shed full on knowledge on L series. His shop is in Moorabbin and his rates are very inexpensive and his work is first class. He rebuilt my Roadster engine 8 years ago and I have flogged it around the track for many years since and it has been bullet proof (revs to 8k without going bang!). He rebuilt my L26 late last year and it also has prooved to be excellent. The budget you will need will be around $4k which will include block honing/boring replacement of all timing gear, oil pump, cylinder head tidy up and new reprofiled valves, all new bearings, lighten flywheel, balancing etc, etc. (basically he replaces everthing that moves with new) Lou does not compromise on anything and being a man of science he is meticulous with his measurements and calculations. Lou is also the guru when it comes to Su carbs and rebuilds them back to as new cheers Alan
  6. I sourced a genuine left hand zed mirror from the US for around $150 to match the right hand side.......only to keep the original look. As per Craig's comment....I do think the MX5 mirrors do look the best on a modified Zed.....maybe becuase I have an MX Roadster Coupe as my daily hack Alan
  7. I have some 10 spoke 15 x 7 12P Superlites is excellent cond (no gutter rash) for sale if you are interested. Fitted with Datsun wheel centres and Yokohama AO32 R's track tyres $400 Alan
  8. If you wanted to retain the L26 the best option is to install 240Z flat top pistons which will increase the comp from 8.3 to around 10:1, this will improve low down torque by around 20%. With a moderate 70-72 degree cam this should produce around 110-115rw/kw (up from the standard 260Z 75-80rw/kw) on standard 240 carbs This combination makes for a driver friendly car with good throttle response and smooth power delivery. I retained my L26 for originality however the internals have undergone the following install flat top pistons (geniuine Nissan pistons can be hard to source) install 280 valves (larger inlet) Stainles valve seats (for unleaded fuel) lighten flywheel port match the head install 280zx elec ignition balance everything that moves install 280 turbo oil pump I am just waiting on Wades for a cam shaft billet to try a Roadster type grind.......calculation suggest around 115rw kw.......the engine is currently producing 100kw with a mountain of torque on a standard 240 A grind cam but the donk get asthmatic at 5500 rpm due to the big valves and lack of lift and duration.....the new 71 degree cam will fix this and make power to 7000rpm. This combination makes for a much smoother engine than the L28 with much the same torque and better high rpm performance. If you are interested in this type of set up I can put you in contact with my engine builder . cheers Alan VP NDSOC

  14. Hey guys Great to hear some of your are able to make it along on Sunday 18th Nov It will be great to have a bunch of 240s/260s at South Bank . Please be sure to bring a sheet of cardboard for use as a drip tray (we all know Zeds don't leak but just in case) as we must ensure there are no fluid stains left behind as the MCC will charge us for any clean up. (you can go nuts with chalk but leave one little drip........go figure ??) Please also ensure you are in by 9.00am as no cars will be permitted after that time (council regs), entry is via South Gate Ave - next to the Langham Hotel cheers Alan VP NDSOC
  15. Lynton It sounds like classic emission control carb issues (they have plastic diaphragms that distort with heat and age) I had a similar issue 17 years ago with my then stock '76 260 Coupe , drive for 1 hr and the car would die............wait an hr and it would drive fine yaddah yaddah. As you have suggested ditch the airpump and exhaust gas recirculation and flat top carbs, install 240Z carbs, 280 elec ignition and headers and 240 A grind cam shaft you will have years of trouble free motoring and 90 kw at the wheels from the standard low comp L26. regards Al.
  16. Lou Mondello (Datsun Roadster Guru) has Synchro and coupling sleeves in stock at almost half the price of Nissan Australia parts (he imports from the US).
