bullzed Posted January 17, 2013 Posted January 17, 2013 Just asking a simple question, can you bore out an L26 block as much as an L28 block? I'm considering going 2.9L with my Z but wanna know if I can just bore this L26 out. If not, can I reuse the L26 crank in an L28 bottom end? Quote
peter mc Posted January 17, 2013 Posted January 17, 2013 The 26 crank is the same crank as the 28 same stroke , can it be bored as far no its the same bore as the 24 , some times you can get a block out to 86 mm but not very often 85 mm is as far as most go . most 28 blocks will go to 88mm some go to 89mm , so if you want a 2.9 go a 28 block and take it to 89 mm you may need to sonic test 5 blocks to find one that will go to 89 Quote
bullzed Posted January 17, 2013 Author Posted January 17, 2013 Thanks Peter! How nicely does an E88 head fit onto an F54 block? The reason I ask is that my engine is a supposed 10k build by Datrally (told by previous owner on this forum) and it seems pretty warm compared to standard L28's I've driven. If I were to go F54 with flattop pistons, would there be clearance issues? I have yet to get the engine spec'd so I couldn't tell you rod length, camshaft profiles etc. Quote
peter mc Posted January 17, 2013 Posted January 17, 2013 you can fit any head on a f54 block , all fit not all make power lol btw there are many E88 heads i have 3 that are all different and the early ones don't work as well as the late the best E88 are from the injected 2.4 engines , there chamber is a good design all they need is some big valves and a port job and there a killa head , just remember what ever head you want to use you must know the cc of the chamber , so you can work out the comp ratio and build a piston from that , and also you can then work out piston to valve clearance some cams will need the piston to have valve pockets in them , get a pro to help with this part or it will be nasty lol Quote
bullzed Posted January 17, 2013 Author Posted January 17, 2013 Are there any easy signs to distinguish the early and late model heads? I'm definitely going to be careful when it comes to the combo, piston +valve is going to spell the end of any engine if not properly worked out. I have a good friend here in Brisbane who does all sorts of work for L4 and L6 engines who will give me tips etc on the build. I'll probably end up getting a dyno on the current 2.7L L26 I have to see whether an increase in displacement will produce larger figures. Quote
dat2kman Posted January 17, 2013 Posted January 17, 2013 Jack Bros in Smallwood st Underwood are good for block cleaning, sonic testing and machining. Quote
bullzed Posted January 18, 2013 Author Posted January 18, 2013 Thanks Jason! I have a friend who has his old workshop available at his command (his apprentice now runs it) and will be able to help me build this hopeful monster. Quote
