I have my 240z motor out of the car it was running but I want to rebuild it or replace it as it is not the matching numbers motor any way any one have any ideas are there crate motors available I am in Geelong Vic but I can travel to Melbourne no dramas if there is some where good a crate motor I think would be great but are they available?

At the moment the car is at my panel beaters and he has fixed the guards so the fibre glassed on flares are gone and also so is the crappy 70's sunroof I will have to get the gear box rebuilt but I know a good place here to do that I just need the motor sorting out.

Cheaper to just rip out an engine/box from a 280zx, bolt on your Hitachi twin carbs, buy a set of exytactors, a fresh exhaust system, away you go.

Make sure you check out the cond of the 280 engine, comp test, clean fluids, etc.

Should cost around 1 to 1.5k by time done, vs 2-3k for a full rebuild incl labour machining and parts, plus old 240 box rebuild.

My 2c worth.

+1 for the 280 motor and box. As so as you start rebuilding stuff you get into the unknown , unless you are handy with the spanner yourself. I would price it out first, the 280 thing and the rebuild thing, see what is best.
