260DET Posted September 10, 2012 Posted September 10, 2012 There is this thread http://www.viczcar.com/forum/index.php/topic,10720.0.html but I'm interested in a wing from Alfa other than the one pictured there so I can order one from Alfa or someone else who sells them. If there are any others around locally available then put em up so we can all drool. Also, any advice for me, particularly concerning a wing suitable for Phillip Island but which will still work at low speeds. Below is a pic of my present one which I got from JustJap. Quote
PZG302 Posted September 11, 2012 Posted September 11, 2012 Richard, Depending on budget, speak to freddy at Topstage for a wing that will work properly and have the right profile and work with the shape of the 280. Other option if you aren't adverse to a spoiler rather than a wing id Gavin, biscuitballs, maybe able to help. He was in the middle of designing a spoiler for me based on a mash up of an RS1600 escort/IMSA 240 wing that woulld have met the regulations for prodsport, given me heaps of downforce for a trach like Lakeside and kept the air from falling off the hip of the car. For QR or EC or PI I would have used the standard Nissan bob tail for minimal down force. Hope that helps. Matt Quote
260DET Posted September 16, 2012 Author Posted September 16, 2012 It does help Matt, thanks. But have all the winged warriors gone? S30's welcome Quote
260DET Posted September 21, 2012 Author Posted September 21, 2012 Overwhelmed by the response, southerners must be scared of the real Northern invasion for the Nats 2013 sprints so are keeping their PI aero secrets, ummm, secret. Hmmm, so, any pro drivers around who want to share a drive, get the best out of the S130? Kick some Mexican arse? Quote

I'd put my hand up Richard, but not working at the moment has put the brakes on any racing other than the odd run around QR in the hairdresser car. If I was to do it I would want a run around QR so you are happy with my driving and also need to know what the contract wuld be to play other than the standard Kings Cross rule if it's binned. Quote
Riceburner Posted September 21, 2012 Posted September 21, 2012 Does your wing have a tow point? You never know who will need a hand from the gravel traps. Another tip, Turn 1 all the way to Honda is definately first gear Kidding, I think Sinisha is the southern most expert on Zed aero at the Island. Maybe PM him? I don't know of any other melb Zeds running proper wings. Quote
Gordo Posted September 21, 2012 Posted September 21, 2012 Hi guys, regarding the ultimate wing for PI. Of cause the bigger the wing and rake you have the more down force you create . But PI is all about mid corner speed, that is where the time is. It's all about having the car balanced. To much rear wing can give you under steer and more drag at high speed. So I think if you haven't driven your car at the Island befor, a well balanced car with good mid corner speed will have the edge over a car that is to big on rear wing. Having said that, if the front splitter , spoiler is up to it you can still have good down force and mid corner speed. So in summery don't over think it, if your car is good on your tracks at home it will be fine at PI. There are not many Zeds down hear running big wings. The majority run the bob tail like me . redrbzed Posted September 26, 2012 Posted September 26, 2012 As Gordo says a proper rear wing can change the balance of your car (and did in my case, hence the front splitter), also had to keep reducing the angle of attack to get the balance right. But in the end the car is sooo much better at mid to high speed corners and under brakes. here is a pic of the final product, this is the Alfa VP V8 rear wing. cheers, Sinisha Quote
Gordo Posted September 26, 2012 Posted September 26, 2012 Hi Sinisha, when are you taking it to the island, will be much faster now. Quote
redrbzed Posted September 26, 2012 Posted September 26, 2012 Hi Gordo, Plan to do the next MSCA sprint in November, really looking forward to it as I have done a lot of aero work to the car since I was there last time. cheers, Sinisha Quote
