Hey all,

I havn't been game yet to take my car into the higher rpm's as I havn't heard whether or not it would have a limiter.

The gearbox is the fs5c71a or b..

Not sure.. the 2+2 one?

Granted I havn't had it that long.

So just wondering how high the limiter is if it has one and whether or not it's safe up there?

Thanks,

James

I don't know a whole lot of specs for my motor.. just the L26, electronic ignition and apparently has a larger cam.. (unconfirmed)

How can i safely figure out if it has a limiter?

Well, I could safely assume that there is no limiter!

Unless there is an ignition box on it.

Or do you just want to know what rpm limit you can take it to safely?

The rev limit you can take your motor to will generally be based on how much mechanical sympathy you have. If your tacho is working, the motor should rev to the the redline quite easily and safely. In my experience, if the tacho is not accurate it generally reads high, ie the tacho will show a higher value than what the engine is actually spinning at.

You should also know when the motor is running out of puff. If you have a standard motor I wouldn't be revving it much over 6500 anyway as you will already be past peak power. You should be able to feel this in the car.

In my earlier race motors I used to rev it until I either got points bounce, or as the valve train reached its rev limit the tone of the motor would change to what could be described as a banshee wail, then I knew it was time to upchange, generally only did this to eek the last drop of performance out of the car chasing someone on the track.

If you listen to the car as you drive you will know how far to take the motor.

Ha you must be to use to Z race motors because my L24 wouldnt make the red line with no sympathy at all!!

But yeah i agree with 6500rpm for L24/L26, iirc L28 stock wont be doing much past 5500rpm  :o

What is it the oldtimers say, rev it until it stops accelerating, count to 3, and then change gears.....
