Hi guys,

Im thinking of purchasing a 280zx (w/o engine and gearbox). The story was the bloke that owned it just grabbed the v8 and gearbox to fit another car(non datsun) and He's selling the rest.

I was wondering if it would be a good buy to use as donor car for my 240. ie diff, rear and front disc brakes, suspension, power steer.

Im concerned that I might not be able to retro fit anything and Im just waisting my money? Also I need to justify my spending to the missus ;D

the car ran b4 the engine got pulled out and he wants $500 for it.

Any advice would be gr8t.

thanks

Eddii, It really depends on what you need.

What parts are you looking to salvage? Since it had a V8 in it previously, most of the parts that are common between the models are gone.

There is literally nothing interior wise that's the same in a 280zx as an earlier 240z. The only thing I can really think of that would be of any use is probably the diff. The suspension changed in the 280zx so the rear's won't be of any help.

If your goal is to get the rear brakes for conversion, you are probably better looking at R31 rear calipers since they are literally a bolt on job (280zx requires a bracket). CV joint conversions are better obtained from Z31 300zx's.

$500 is too much to pay for what you need it for, in my opinion. Having said that I haven't seen the car so can't really give anymore useful information.

Thanks Gav,

I have no intentions of re-using the interior. I only wanted to use the diff (if it's a LSD type) including CV's, power steering set up (if it's a straight fit),and rear disc brake setup (also if it's a straight forward fit).

Normally I wouldnt ask this question until i've seen the car, and I would've found out that the rear suspension setup is totally different to the 240, but the car is 300klms away from where i live :(

The plan for my car is to bolt on a 1UZ engine + supra g/box. So the main priorities are to get the brakes sorted out (front and rear) to handle the increase in HP, replace the suspension and worry about the diff when it stuffs up.

I'll prolly give this car a miss then and start looking for bits and pieces here and there :)

Thanks for your input
