oldzguy Posted March 29, 2012 Posted March 29, 2012 The popular Hilux/ R31 disc conversion has been well covered and the choice of 15/16 mastercylinder from 79- 81 280zx is recommended. This (JB1361) is no longer available from local sources but a 8/81 280zx M/C is (JB1362) Any one shed any light on differences, suitability etc.? Cheers Quote
nizm0zed Posted March 29, 2012 Posted March 29, 2012 iirc, the difference was in the position of the ports, where the hard lines come off? I think the mounting to the booster was the same on all of them. Quote
oldzguy Posted March 29, 2012 Author Posted March 29, 2012 Stopped being lazy and searched through old posts, Credit to Peter allen for this: The following is from Hydrid Z: MASTER CYLINDERS The stock master cylinder is really unsuitable for any 4 piston caliper upgrade. It works marginally for the Toyota 4 piston calipers, but really increases the pedal throw. A 79-81 280ZX master is a nice upgrade and is suggested by Modern Motorsports and Arizona Z Car when using their brake kits discussed above. There are two masters in the ZX's. The early one has dual reservoirs and fits onto a Z booster. The later one has a single reservoir and has the reservoirs clocked 90º making it incompatible with the Z booster. Quote
nizm0zed Posted March 29, 2012 Posted March 29, 2012 well there you go..... Have you only tried one source? From memory PBR discontinued the older stuff quite a while ago, but ATAP was still producing some stuff. I ended up sourcing my (new) 280zx master from the states Quote
oldzguy Posted March 30, 2012 Author Posted March 30, 2012 Got EziAuto parts to check availability, they supply Protex which is ATAP's product any way, so...... other alternative may be to consider a 1" Patrol MC. or get a S/H one resleeved etc Quote
Scoota G Posted March 30, 2012 Posted March 30, 2012 I have the 1" patrol master cylinder. Love it, pedal is a bit harder but readily available. Mine came from Supercheap at$158. Go get one. Quote
oldzguy Posted April 2, 2012 Author Posted April 2, 2012 1" MC ordered as instructed. Does a restrictor valve need to be removed from rear circuit of MC or is that on car itself? Cheers Quote
Scoota G Posted April 3, 2012 Posted April 3, 2012 1" MC ordered as instructed. Does a restrictor valve need to be removed from rear circuit of MC or is that on car itself? Cheers I can't remember if i removed one from mine of not. Just check if it has one, it will be in the master cylinder itself where the rear line screws in. More than likely you will have to adjust the pedal height in the cabin itself but do this last. Quote
