tbscobraZ Posted March 6, 2012 Posted March 6, 2012 Seeing as though the RB20 fits the L28, I was wondering if this includes the RB20 automatic? I'm after an auto and don't want a crappy 3 speed auto. Also the R34 tiptronic auto, could it be made to fit? Please no questions or comments about my desire for an auto. Just after some info. Thanks Tom. Quote
C.A.R. Posted March 6, 2012 Posted March 6, 2012 R30 Skyline is a 4-speed auto & will bolt straight in Quote
RB30X Posted March 6, 2012 Posted March 6, 2012 Early Dattos have the Jatco 3N71B and later dattos (aka Nissans and some Holdens) used the 4N71B. Both share the same bolt patterns. The VL turbo 4 speed had a lot stronger input shafts and other bits if you're looking to put a bit of power through one. Anything newer than that ie the tipronic R43 auto would be mostly (if not completely) electronic which means it would need its own computer and a lot of setting up to be made into a conversion. Quote
DatPilot Posted March 6, 2012 Posted March 6, 2012 +1 for the Jatco 4N71B Can be beefed up internally to help with 12 sec pass with no dramas behind a hot RB30et The R30 skyline auto was the last of the Jatcos to be non elec controlled from factory. Most likely the easiest option.... (although im not sure what the 280zx autos had/.??) Quote
Enzo Posted March 7, 2012 Posted March 7, 2012 Hi, As RB30X said. Early Datsuns (280zx) had the 3N71B model auto. Codes: X2707 for non-turbo..... Torque converter code G X2770 for Turbo............Torque converter code A David Quote

tbscobraZ Posted March 7, 2012 Author Posted March 7, 2012 So is this the same one your talking about? Will I need to swap the bell-housing? Thanks again. Quote

D.O.G Posted March 8, 2012 Posted March 8, 2012 The R30 skyline auto was the last of the Jatcos to be non elec controlled from factory. Most likely the easiest option.... Nissan Vanette (Z20) and Nissan Nomad (Z24) (and maybe others?) still used non electronic 4N71B's into the early 90's. Both of these used carburettors (no ECU), so they lacked the necessary input signals for the gearbox electronics. You would still have to change the bellhousing or get an adapter made. I asked a local auto transmission guy about an electronic auto swap a couple of years back (I wanted the lock-up torque converter). It can be done, but sounds messy. He was talking about mounting an electronic speedo in the glovebox to get the VSS signal and other fiddly bits. Quote
tbscobraZ Posted March 9, 2012 Author Posted March 9, 2012 My hyperlink to ebay didn't post. Thanks for the info, looks like 4N71B is the go. Thanks for the assistance. Quote
