zzzzed Posted February 29, 2012 Posted February 29, 2012 Is it possible to use the original speedo when fitting an rb20det? I have a r32 skyline gauge cluster and it has a speedo cable input on it much the same as my original 240z gauge. So why can't I just plug the speedo cable in to that from the gear box ? Quote
garvice Posted February 29, 2012 Posted February 29, 2012 Been thinking the same thing as I have a RB26 sender that is mechanical. Can't check it yet because I have to fit it into a z32 gearbox which has a slightly different size sender. Quote
jamo240 Posted February 29, 2012 Posted February 29, 2012 Hey gents I have an RB25DET in my 240, and I simply fitted a VL turbo speedo drive (the bit that goes into the gearbox), and then the 240Z cable screws straight onto that...even the tang drive on the cable is made for the VL turbo drive. It's that easy. Of course you lose the electronic input to the ECU, but that is only there for the speed limiter...it doesn't seem to upset the operation of the ECU to run the engine at all. You don't need to use the 90 degree angle drive either, as it gets too close to the tunnel. There is a Holden wrecker in Clayton who has a whole lot of NOS of the speedo drives ex-OEM Holden. zzzzed Posted December 24, 2012 Author Posted December 24, 2012 I just worked out that you don't need a vl commodore speedo drive for this. I just unscrews the rb20det electronic speed sender and screwed my standard 240z speedo cable straight in and now I have a working speedo as simple as that. Quote
