datgillie Posted December 15, 2011 Posted December 15, 2011 hi guys so i pulled off my intake manifold, because im either putting on triple dellortos, or twin dellortos with custom adaptors to suit su manifold, and for some reason datsun has this stupid idea with the inlet and exhaust manifolds joining together, problem is if i want to put on a set of extractors or later L6 exhaust manifold the starter is on the same side of engine and will interfere with exhaust mani, wondering if there is any standard manifolds that exit towards the centre that may clear the starter, or could i put a smaller size starter say off a L4 to make better clearance, or just run with what i got and blank off the massive hole, im not after all out performance, just wanted something old school and cool looking to bolt to the inlet, because im having dramas with the standard setup, even with trying to re-jet the 34/34 weber i previously installed, if anyone has come across this could you give me some ideas chears Deano, also weber setup is now u for sale with adaptor plate... dat2kman Posted December 15, 2011 Posted December 15, 2011 Interesting, L series engine, but a early type gearbox, i think yours is Auto? If so the reduction drive starter motor from a H 20 engined forklift will fit, these are more compact and higher power rhan the stock starter motor, the same is also used on U20 enginrs in Datsun Roadster convertibles, ie the starter is on the left hand side of the car. You may just be lucky and find a set of L series 6 cylinder extactors will clear tje solenoid on the starter, but to make sure heat is not an issue, clamp/ secure some of the wrinkly double sided super dooper heat shield stuff in such way, ie using some hose clamps through said shield to bits of extractor pipe, to deflect heat You have both a triple carb intake and a twin su intake, simpler is tje twin su, but only f tje su/hitachi carbs ate attached, dont give yourself a headache trying to get twin barrell dellorto/webers to flow into the twin su manifold, it will not work very well. If you have a triple sidedraft manifold, just whack on some dellortos/webets/throotle bodies( injection system?) Did you manage to souce a cam and valve springs, i pm'ed you what i had and pricing! Never heard back! Quote
datgillie Posted December 15, 2011 Author Posted December 15, 2011 lol yeh im a retard didnt realize i had to click notify up the top, so u dont think twins would be any good, i only want it for the looks really and wont be driving it much, im a S/s metal fabricator so making an adaptor or modifying a set off extractors wont be to much of a mission, but rely just want the simplest cheapest way around it Quote
dat2kman Posted December 15, 2011 Posted December 15, 2011 If you already have the twin sidedrafts, and the oem hitachi SU manifold, you could make an adaptor, its look rarher interesting, youd need to make sure you have room over to ypur inner fender, as ypur car has double wishbone suspension, and no inside strut tower to get in the eay, it could all work, try to make tha afaptor as long as possible, allowing for the length of the carbs WITH the airfilter fitted, itll end up as a two into one type afaptor, x 2 for each intake port. Reason you need tje smooth yransition over the distance is to not cause ypur air fuel mixture to have to tirn and twist tnrough tight cornets etc. One of the guys running in Group Sc historic prodsports has made a custom very long runner intake manifold, the Hitachi SU carbs at 1 3/4 inch are right out near the strut tower, in a Zed, this is giving him very good midrange torque, due to inlet tract length ( rules for 240/260 allow this!) datgillie Posted January 6, 2012 Author Posted January 6, 2012 so any one got a cheep triple sidedraft manifold and linkages for sale, i ended up getting hold of a set of triples, if not i might just save for this one http://www.zccjdm.com/catalog.php/azcarbum/dt47542/pd858311/L6__KAMEARI_Triple_s_Intake_Manifold. Moderators Zedman240® Posted January 6, 2012 Moderators Posted January 6, 2012 Autobarn sell the Redline brand manifolds.. But spend a few dollars on good rod ends from "Linear Bearings" or any other engineering supplies place to avoid too much slop in the linkage..causes too many headaches. Quote
Tj Posted January 8, 2012 Posted January 8, 2012 the same is also used on U20 enginrs in Datsun Roadster convertibles, ie the starter is on the left hand side of the car. For what it's worth, I've read recently that R30 skyline starters bolt straight onto U20 motor, therefore, might be some use. Quote
