Here is an opportunity to get the complete performance package as a bolt in and drive away package.

Up for sale is the race motor and box from my race car.

The pakage consists of:

  • L29 Injected motor putting out 195rwhp
  • Early 260 Box with the good ratio's

The motor is complete from the BHJ Dynamics harmonic Balancer to the modified clutch and includes the starter, alternator, computer and engine harness and manifolds.

The motor was rebuilt in early 2010 with it's first run at the 2010 Cootha Classic and has done 3 track days (2010and 2011 lapz), the Noosa Classic Hillclimb last November and 4 race meetings (Qld Pros Sports Championship rounds 1 to 3 and Morgan Park 1 hour enduro Sept. 2010). The engine makes 195.5rwhp and 212ft/lb of torque from the dyno sheet when it was tuned. have allreceipts for the build. Oil has been changed every second meeting and only Joe Gibbs driven XP7 oil has been used. I will supply enough oil for one oil change and a new filter, as the motor was due for an oil change afetr the last event.

The motor is 3mm oversize with custom pistons on 133mm rods for a better rod/stroke ratio. Head is a N42 with a lot of work done for overall torque than outright power. It runs 280ZX injectors on a N47 turbo log with a Haltech F9 computer (included with engine as is the harness to run the computer).

Extractors are handmade 6-3-1 by Andy at Penrith Muffler Man, one of the most respected exhaust builders in Western Sydney for state level racers back when the car was built, and also why my car always had a different note as I have yet to see another Z running this type of system. The extactors will need repair as they got damaged when the chassis rail hit them. I will also incude the side exiting exhaust and a rear exiting system as well.

The clutch was specifically built for the car and refurbished at the time rebuild. It has no slip and is a user friendly item, being a "semi" button clutch to allow the car to trundle around the pits or be loaded onto trailers.

The gearbox is an early 260 box with the good ratios, ie 2.9 first and 0.85 fifth, and is in good condition. Second gear syncro can graunch if you slam through the gears, but if you drive it properly and take your time on gear changes will last another 10 years.

I would prefer for this to go as one as the box and motor are still bolted together with starter and alternator ready to drop into your car.

In an afternoon you could be running around with near enough to 200hp under your right foot.

Price for complete package is $5,500

You couldn't build the motor for that price.

Pickup from Brisbane preferred, though maybe able to help with delivery within a couple of hours of brisbane.

Nothing wrong with those extractors, i use the next best design for high hp at high rpm, a 6 into 1 design, that circulates in firing order, to scavenge the primaries. Works pretty good for me.

BTW to replicate this package woul easy cost $10,000, nothing could be simpler than this little lot, as a straight drop in.

Odd thing is most of us all reckon we can build a mousetrap on the cheap, but wont admit that when it comes to costs vs performance, we spend a heck of a lot.

Today, to put a top class decent Z on track or tarmac, or dirt, will cost at least $60,000, why spend all that, just buy someones proven performer, at far less cost!

That would be a great buy and only cost a few hundred $$'s to send interstate.

If you buy it in the next week, someone maybe able to take it south with him as he travels to the Alpine........ ;D Therefor saving a lot on freight

your dead right 5500 is dam cheep for a good combo you can not build a good head and cam combo for that, and id fix the extractors in 30 min thats not to hard to fix at all

Hey, Peter, and others, i'd leave those extractors alone, yes a bit ugly in wrap, but the design is a best of both worlds, compated to low/midrange usual 3-2-1 , and a high rpm scavenging 6-1.

I know how much it costs to build a good engine, I have been speaking with Rebello racing about a 3L L engine.

What rpm did the engine produce peak HP and what cam is installed?

Would also be good to know why you are selling the powerplant.

Cheers

I've spent much more than that on a build.

No gearbox

No induction

No ECU

Its a fair bolt in upgrade.  ;)

Looks like the motor and box is heading south pending payment and sorting delivery out. Someone has got himself a bargain upgrade for their Z.
