It would help with smooth gear changes which might save the box if you got a little to ambitious and the stick is nice and high, which would be great in a motokana.

But you also get the disadvatage of not being able to jump gears going down the box.

 

For example in a lot of turns I quite often drop two or three gears in one change, saving more time than the corresponding individual shifts in the sequence. ie from 5th to 2nd, 5th to 3rd, 4th to 2nd.

 

By being mechanical and needing the clutch I can't see how you are saving time with the sequential shifter. On bikes you flat change so no time lost, on racing cars with "proper" sequential boxes the electronics cuts the motor ever so briefly so as not to damage it and negate the need for a clutch for changes.

 

The mechanical shifter will only change gears as fast as the box will allow, so if you have a slow box the changes will have to be slow otherwise damage can occur by beating the gears.

And that function (flat-shift) can easily be added to most aftermarket ECUs. Then you are only loosing the time it takes to add that small sideways component to the 2-3 and 4-5 changes. Is that time, measured in milliseconds, worth AUD1250 to you? Not me.

It looks as though it is primarily set up for wire/remote type boxes i.e front wheel drive where the stick is not part of the box assembly.
