peter mc Posted September 29, 2011 Posted September 29, 2011 THIS will be one mad zed ... tom asked for a strong RB26 and had lots of parts for the build ...the problem with the 26 is its a little bit asthmatic down low in the range with big turbos ,so how do you fix this ....more cubes more stroke so we got a new billet fully counter balanced crank new i beam rods and custom CP forged pistons so the spec sheet reads like this N1 oil pump with upgrade gears new custom sump N1 water pump adj timing gears cams 270 10.85 tom pro ported chamber and ports new guides bronze nitto type hks valve springs and titanium retainers also 1mm bigger inlet and exh valves turbos are -5 garret with hks dumps crank custom 2.8 billet rods are custom i beam pistons are CP 87mm ATI 1000 hp ballancer nitto full gasket kit motec will run the show , it will run boost control as well 1000cc ID injectors twin plate nismo copper max clutch power 300kw+ on 98 with mad responce so i will post lots of picks as things progress the first photo is where it all starts Quote
peter mc Posted October 1, 2011 Author Posted October 1, 2011 bit of work today spent some time removing all the casting marks from the block and removed all welsh plugs . next step in the bath and have it bored and hone and then i will paint the inside of the block ,,, i also ported the oil return side of the block as the Rb has problems in this area. and have fitted a 1.2 mm oil feed in the block Quote
peter mc Posted October 19, 2011 Author Posted October 19, 2011 well work on the Rb28 this week ,,, more porting and more porting lol and i have modified the chambers so we can run more timing than a standard head this will let us make more power and the engine will run cooler ,work on the ports will be same as the GR A cars and the cams will be as well ...... this will be a hell of a fast car Quote
zr240 Posted October 19, 2011 Posted October 19, 2011 Nice work pete. Good to see it step by step. Ash Quote
peter mc Posted October 19, 2011 Author Posted October 19, 2011 this is the mod on the chamber ......i will remove the steps on both sides of the camber Quote
Scando Posted October 19, 2011 Posted October 19, 2011 Looking good Pete Thanks very much for posting up the pics. Quote
peter mc Posted October 20, 2011 Author Posted October 20, 2011 more pics just a note that the chamber mods for mild motors 15psi you can do the inlet side and race motors do both sides for high boost 20 +psi on 98 pr fuel this mod will let you run up to a extra 6deg timing.... Quote
garvice Posted October 22, 2011 Posted October 22, 2011 Wow, looking good Peter and I like your style (you are not afraid to share your knowledge). That comes across as a man who is confident in the quality of his work and isn't afraid that he has to keep secrets from his competition. The chamber mod, is the first picture yours?is that larger valves or just the angle? Does this lower compression much? Quote
peter mc Posted October 22, 2011 Author Posted October 22, 2011 hi garvice first pic is a comp head with big valves and flows 310 cfm and will go on my NC28 as for the compression yes is lowers it, the step in the chamber helps turbulence at low rpm and boost ...but as things get going it can overheat the intake side of the piston and u will see det marks on all gtr pistons on that side, so this mod helps remove det that you can not hear and you can run more timing and make more power for the same psi,,,, if you wont you can buy pistons that will bring the comp up for race fuel with a 9.1 ratio with the mod to the chamber with the stroke and bore and the piston i have ordered this motor will be 8.5 /1 and will take 20deg timing at 20psi on pump 98 without the mods to the camber you can not get 14 degs timing Quote
Scando Posted October 22, 2011 Posted October 22, 2011 Thanks for the explanation Pete. Makes sense that the sharp edge on the step would cause a hot spot. So for a higher compression (9.5:1) and farily low boost engine (15psi or less) you would just do the inlet side? Quote
peter mc Posted October 23, 2011 Author Posted October 23, 2011 yer only the inlet side and just role the exhaust side so it has on sharp edge ...9.5 and e85 and you will have a monster at 15 psi on 3L you can run so much timing makes for a engine that feels like it its 6L and high comp Quote
Scando Posted October 23, 2011 Posted October 23, 2011 makes for a engine that feels like it its 6L and high comp That's what I'm after Thanks again Pete. Quote
peter mc Posted October 28, 2011 Author Posted October 28, 2011 with this type of motor it so in portant to have the best gaskets you can get ,i love the nitto stuff all mls gaskets for the inlet and exhaust and a head gasket that i have never had fail up to 50psi and 1000hp on one i built a while back Quote
handsandwhich Posted October 28, 2011 Posted October 28, 2011 Like a kid in a candy store. I'd like some lollies please! Quote
peter mc Posted October 28, 2011 Author Posted October 28, 2011 yer i love when new parts come in, and this one has lots of cool parts. i dont think there will be many sports cars out there that will beat you Quote
dazzed Posted October 28, 2011 Posted October 28, 2011 THIS will be one mad zed ... tom asked for a strong RB26 and had lots of parts for the build ...the problem with the 26 is its a little bit asthmatic down low in the range with big turbos ,so how do you fix this ....more cubes more stroke so we got a new billet fully counter balanced crank new i beam rods and custom CP forged pistons so the spec sheet reads like this N1 oil pump with upgrade gears new custom sump N1 water pump adj timing gears Hey Pete what is a N1 oil pump and water pump? GR A cams ported chamber and ports new guides bronze nitto type hks valve springs and titanium retainers also 1mm bigger inlet and exh valves turbos are -5 garret with hks dumps crank custom 2.8 billet rods are custom i beam pistons are CP 87mm ATI 1000 hp ballancer nitto full gasket kit motec will run the show , it will run boost control as well power 300kw+ on 98 with mad responce so i will post lots of picks as things progress the first photo is where it all starts Quote
peter mc Posted October 28, 2011 Author Posted October 28, 2011 hi dazzed are you asking about the pumps ? if so the N1 parts are up rated Nissan motorsport parts < larger gears and more pressure > NISSMO N1 parts were first used in Australia on our Winfield racecars with a new block with better water channels and thicker bores ,,,and bigger turbos with steal wheels and better oil and water pumps .....the standard block had problems cracking the around the deck bolts when pushed and the N1 was beefed up to stop this, so they could finish races with 2bar boost going in to them Quote
peter mc Posted October 31, 2011 Author Posted October 31, 2011 well i have found the valves needed to be replaced so iv gone for a 1mm up ss nitto Quote
handsandwhich Posted October 31, 2011 Posted October 31, 2011 Let me know if you want these mirror polished, you know how much I love polishing everything that is metal Quote
peter mc Posted November 3, 2011 Author Posted November 3, 2011 so do you like the paint i think it should look like this ,,,what do you think tom Quote
handsandwhich Posted November 3, 2011 Posted November 3, 2011 That does look sweet, but it would be a sea of blue inside the engine bay. If someone would send me the cam covers, I could get them painted the same colour as the car and then the polished front and valley covers (take a close look at the mod to the numbers on the timing cover) would break up the colour a bit. Quote
peter mc Posted November 4, 2011 Author Posted November 4, 2011 while the block and head is at the shop iv been working on the turbos and manifolds ,,,lots of porting and work on the HKS dumps to get the flow up Quote
RB30X Posted November 4, 2011 Posted November 4, 2011 So HKS are letting you down aye Pete? I saw some Tomei dumps getting installed recently and they were works of art. No mods needed on those bad boys. In fact the quality was outstanding, and they came with everything. Quote
peter mc Posted November 4, 2011 Author Posted November 4, 2011 mmm some times the Nissan part is the better part and you say the Tomei part is good ,,,well the Nissan manifolds with 10min of work makes more power ,,,lol mmm but they look so cool Quote
