Best zed body work book

I know a fair few of you have books on restoring zeds etc, and i'm just wondering which is best for what? i'm particually interested in one which will tell me how to pull off all the chrome things stuck to the body.

 

although i think the only thing i am really stuck with is the door handles, the metal strip at the top of the door, the rear quater windows (or best just to mask them?) and the zed rear quater badges...which is just about all of it lol. i just dont want to brake any of it and i'm sure a book is good to have either way.

 

which would you recommend?

if your painting the car don't mask any of those things and paint over the top or it will look bob the back yarders gone to work on your car. Just use a fine spatular thats wrapped in cloth to get your badges off. The strip on top of the door comes off pretty easily just give it a good yank it's pretty straight forward.

Don't know of a particular book, but most of the bits you've mentioned can be removed fairly easily.

 

Door handles can be removed by the two (8mm ?) nuts on the inside of the door, remove inner skin, wind window up and you should be able to reach them.

 

Chrome strip above door? On the body? This may help...

I got told that the quarter windows are okay to remove, but incredibly difficult to re-install with new rubber. So only do them if needed. :shock: I haven't tried this, it's only what I was told by a gent that had done more than a couple of them.

 

Don't know how to remove the c-pillar badges... :oops:

thanks for the link, i've actually pulled off one of hte drip rails before, so i'm happy with that, its the one between the body and window i'm wondering about, althoguh i found something once on classiczcars that said you just pull up vertically, but i'm worried about braking it

 

with the handles, by the inner door skin i assume you mean the interior lining? i guess i was worried the mechanisim would pull back into the door with some big spring or somethign and be a pain in the ass?

 

i'm thinking the c-pillar badge might b the same as the other badges, as per what sulio said, the rear hatch latch i've had off before also.

 

hmmm i might just mask all the windows, and lift up the rubber a bit with a thickish line so i can paint under it, as i've heard a few people do that. i'm also thinking about getting my antenna hole welded up, and mayb the front headlights, but that excel indicator swap thing looks alright, or is that just a reflector? as i couldn't find any pics of austrlian 86-89 excels with them?

 

and yeah i'm planning to paint, i've been holding off for a bit as i wasn't 100% on the colour, and i'd like to have my car looking the way it will in a month for a while, but i'm dying to paint it also, the main aim is to have it done by summer, and since i need semi decent weather it will probably get done in spring, so i guess i'm just trying to get prepared, and since i started wondering about these things i kinda can't stop wondering about it, lol, and i want to start repairing my damanged fender, but i'll just wait till paint time

yer just pull that door strip up you won't break anything. The quarter windows will come out and they go back in pretty easily with the old rubbers. I'm sure your rubbers will be ok as it's very hard to damage them as the bulk of it is under the window. I'd also strongly recommend pulling the rear and front window and not just painting over the top.

agreed, but as it will b a roller job i can just get a fine brush and do the edges lol

 

also if some dark green is visible it hopefully wont b the worst thing due to the green tinge i'm planning on having. if i'm not happy with the masking i'll then pull the glass i guess

 

so the books aren't really worth it i guess? although i'm sure when you have a whole car apart it may help put it back together? i'm so tempted to start pulling all the chrome stuff off, i must restrain myself

Wick Humble has the best zed resto book available.

 

Tech Bookshop had copies(I've been told they closed @Xmas, but I haven't verified that) or Pitstop in Perth.

 

Fantastic covered on complete strip down, repair and how to put the pieces back together. Buy it you won't regret it.
