Rear mirror conversion - how to (not really)

This is a short how to converse the rear mirror. I like to look at my rear mirror and be able to see the sides, this makes it easier to change lane and such, plus mine is on its way out. One way to do it is to buy the longer clip-on mirror but thats just UN-original, I like my car to look stock  the other way is to swap the pivot ball from the stock  mirror to the new mirror. This enables us to use the stock pivot ball and connector to which the assembly can attach itself to handle.

 

Tools & Equips:

 

Heat gun

Flat screw driver

Phillip screw driver

Gloves

 

Put on your gloves, set the heat gun at around 250-310 C, I set mine at 310C. When the gun reaches the desire temperature  hold it about 15-20 cm away from the mirror and move around the edge of the mirror. Try to get the mirror to warm up, if you set your temp gun really high me like you'll only need a few second before the plastic warms up, make sure you dont melt the thing. Now hold the mirror in your hand and twist it a little with some luck the mirror should pop right out, if it doesnt if should at least dislocate itself from the groove. Slide the flat head in and try to pry it out, Gently or you will crack the glass, heat it up again if necessary, use another flat head if you have to. Once the glass cracks it's game over, so just take your time...patience is the key

 

So the glass is out, good work. Wait, did you pop two glasses out from both mirror? If you didn't then start on the other one, if you did then pat yourself on the back, maybe go get a beer , that's what I did . With the stock mirror take the glass out and remove the pivot assembly, use the phillip screw driver to remove the screw, remove the plate, now remove the pivot ball. This is what we need, so hold on the the ball

 

With the other rear mirror, you will need to remove its pivot ball so you can swap the stock's over. The process should be similar, but sometimes the ball is hard-pressed into the plastic assembly and needs tremendous force to remove. Don't deter, just use your heat gun again. Going around in circle until the plastic is warm, now you can pull it out easily.

 

Swap the stock pivot ball over the new plastic assembly, heat it up if required.

 

Now install the plastic assembly back into the casing, heat up the casing slightly then pop the glass back in. It should go in easy. That's it done. Enjoy a wider view from behind . Hope this is helpful to some members.

I'm not really sure. I bought it sometimes ago from eBay and the seller didnt say where it came from. Looks like from a ford falcon
