Wires fried in engine bay .. figure I should upgrade the electrics

Earlier this year I had some wires fry in my engine bay. (Resized pics, hard to see, but second pic, the wire is fried clean just under that bottle).

Finally have money to get it fixed (should allow me to finally register my car).

I figure rather than just replacing burnt out wires and whatever my auto electrician is going to claim needs replacing, I should buy some upgrades and have them installed at the same time.

What ignition (starter, coils, dizzy, etc .. would people suggest)..

I have a 74 2+2 ... L26 motor, slightly lumpy cam, with SU's.

Advice?

I'd suggest a VL starter (planetary gear starter = low amps/quick cranking), good ol' 280ZX distributor and coil from the same 280ZX (or any good 12v coil; Bosch transformer type etc)

Geez, none of those were on my list to even consider.

I was more thinking  Crane ignition kit (probably the XR-3000) and one of their coils.

Figured I'd leave the distributor alone for now.

Thoughts?

hey Zedman240, is there a specific vl starter you need, like auto na. i have read vl turbo uses a bigger flywheel and different starter to suit, so there is at least 2.

Luni260z, you could look at CDI ignition and just keep the points dizzy. they relieve the workload of the points, and deliver a nice big spark to boot. something like a msd 6 and matching coil would get the job done.

If you're serious about the crane path could sell you one second hand as I only had in for about 6 mths before going the 280 dissy with the efi.

With the starter, just a standard one from an NA model should be ok. Unless you can locate a L28ET reduction starter...

Sadly I already ordered the crane system before I saw maddof's post :(

As for the starter, will keep it in mind, but mine seems to start the car fine as long as the battery isn't near death.
