Tj Posted July 3, 2011 Posted July 3, 2011 ... Well, at least that's what I think they're called. In the charcoal canister there's meant to be a small spring loaded valve and mine's missing. I believe its the cause of my lack of vacuum advance and loss of hvac controls (unless its something else, I'm a little bit of a Zed noob) Can you still buy these? For the mean time the old man and I have swapped a few vac lines around to it does at least get vacuum advance but its still not quite right. Thanks guys. Quote
zeds4ever Posted July 3, 2011 Posted July 3, 2011 G'day mate, I prvsly had a 260 2+2 & there was no intermdte valve attached, also the 28L motor i'm using now does not have one. Think you will find that either your vacuum control unit & or the vacuum internals are "Stuffed" it's pretty common with them. Try the following . Crimp the tubing to the purge cnstr to isolate it & check for any difference to motor running keeping hands clear of fan, if no change remove your dizzy cap , discnct vacuum lead from mnfld to dizzy then for want of a better xpression "Suck" hard on tube which is cnctd to dizzy checking to see if the advance plate in dizzy moves. If you draw air thru tube cntnusly this indicates that diaphraghm internals are shot. Also see if you can move the plate itself manually but don't put to much pressure on it, if it is hard to move indicates that the plastic space unit is broken. I'm at present trying to organise parts from USA for these items. If you need any parts contact ma ASAP. Regards: Alan. Quote
zeds4ever Posted July 13, 2011 Posted July 13, 2011 Just an afterthought, realized also that if the dashpot internals are stuffed & you can draw air freely thru the vacuum tube dissy ,then naturally you will have a vacuum leak back to the manifold via this section. If this is the case the engine won't function 100% & is usually a bit harder to start ,so better to isolate the vacuum tube & block it off. To compensate for dissy advance loss just advance your timing a couple of degrees per medium of the dissy. However it will affect your fuel cnsmptn a little in city driving. Regards: Alan. Quote
