Hey guys,

I think I've got a standard 260Z 5 speed and the dam 3rd gear is insanley long.

from 6,000rpm in 2nd it drops to like 3,00rpm in 3rd (i think)......then takes a million years to pull..........hahhahaha.

Whats a good box out there guys and what sort of prices do they go for?

Can I use one of these?

Thanks.

Hahaha, sorry dude. The 240K was a L24 powered sedan (that looked like crap imo). It made a huge difference to low down power, but you have to shift more often.

My one came with 240k box, so im unsure of what they cost. I sold all my stuff to blue_leaf, so you might want to see if he still has it and wants to sell.

sounds more like the 1st and 2nd ear spacing' date=' maybe close ratio?

biggger gap between 2nd and 3rd??[/quote']

oh you think I might have a close ratio already?

if so wouldn't all the gears be similarly spaced?

I have nice 1st and 2nd but third is crap..........

but 3-4-5 seem to match if that makes sense..........

what do you reckon guys?.......i need this for the win vs a vtirR integra..........hahhahah jk

yea that sounds like my old 2+2 box, what is your diff ratio?

is your speedo right?? or it reads lower than you are doing?

with a CR box its just 1st and 2nd that differed (shorter)

just loose thoughts at this stage. how you describe the gears ets would indicate that but if the diff ratio is a bit low ie a 3.54 then yes 3rd would be a beatch, cause when using a 3.7 or higher you are able to push past the slow bit of 3rd ie low torque revs.

anyways, keep us posted and check out your diff ratio and your speedo reading.

Not sure if this is correct or not, but I was informed that the 240z box was the same as the 240K box mentioned above.

Can anyone substantiate this?

same?? i doubt, when is anything nissan the same lol. different part with diff shift mangaers and workers

i fit a 240k box in my old 260 and the box is shorter aswell as the gearstick by about 50-65mm both if i remember correctly.

It still goes in and all but the tail shaft yoke only engaegs about halfway and the stick is hard to get in 1 3 5th gears unles you grind/cut the shifter opening or unless doing an auto->man swap then even more cutting.

There are plenty of boxes available for big dollars when you can find them, from the option 1 and 2 motorsport boxes boxes that have reverse above 1st like the old stanza SSS pattern through to the Z and K boxes.

The best spread of ratios in the standard boxes to use is the early 240 box, getting rarer than rocking horse poo now days and you can't have mine   Problem with these boxes is that the 2nd gear synchros are pretty ordinary but there are fixes available. As I said the most difficult part is finding one.

The easiest option maybe is to see if a later model box will fit, like those used on RB and SR motors.

Well i have my RB25 out at the moment, so ill take some photos and do some measurements in 2 weekends time (when im there next), if anyone is willing to measure theyre box we might be able to put something together.
