hi, im just trying to suss out what dizzys are available for the L6 engines, try get a complete list.

so there is the single point dizzy. im guessing this was on all 240z (l24) and 260z (l26) in australia? when i look up pertronix kits, which would be aimed at the US, they are only for 70-73. so was there a change in the dizzy, and did this occur in australia too?

what about points dizzys in other cars using the L6 engines. the MQ patrol with the L28 for example, this according to the factory part numbers at nissan4u.com, it had one dizzy from 80-83 and another from 83-87. the second dizzy was also interchangable with a third dizzy, and they are refereced to "HITACHI D609-62".

so basically im asking if they upgraded anything in these points dizzys along the way, made them better or something?

ive then seen some aftermarket twin-point dizzys, from mallory and similar.

then there are the dizzys in the efi engines. im a little lost here, but did all 280zx NA have the same electronic reluctor style dizzy. this is the one that can be used on an carby engine, as it is stand-alone. it must have vacuum and mechanical advance.

then there is the 280zx turbo electronic dizzy, which is an optical style with no advance mechanisms, as it is computer controlled from what i have read.

what about other electronic dizzys, from L20 turbo engines for example?

I know that all the efi ones changed from each vehicle . Laurel skyline 280zx Cedric etc. The advance curve was the main difference, as well as auto to manual difference

So there's at least 10 non turbo efi .

There are 2 different L20et ones too

You are correct about the 280ZX N/A dizzys, they have the ignition module on the side. Plenty of write-ups on how to wire it up.

L20ET has a chopper wheel like the L28ET.

Dont forget the US went to injected L28s in '75 with their 280Zs

Whats your point in doing all this?

i purchased (for a super bargain!) a programmable msd unit. needs a 'plain' dizzy without any advance, so i was trying to work out the best way to do so. i got another MQ points dizzy for cheap so i am going to have a go at locking it out. i spotted on ebay a few days ago an optical CAS style dizzy, but i wasnt sure how this would run with the MSD.

also thought it might be good for other people to find a listing easily in one spot.

I had a reluctor type L20ET distributor that looked exactly like a L28ET with the optical but was totaly different inside. See if you can use the L28ET dizzy with the MSD; find out the specs on what input it needs..
