zeds4ever Posted May 1, 2011 Posted May 1, 2011 Noticed that the colour & consistency of power steering oil is not unlike atf oil. Can anyone xplain the difference between the two other than the titles, please. Regards: Alan. Quote
DAZDA Posted May 3, 2011 Posted May 3, 2011 Alan, I think you may find it depends on the Automatic Transmission Fluid (ATF) in question. There are several different types of ATF, some are for auto transmissions with diffs in them (like some FWDs), some for Constantly Variable Transmissions, others have different temperature/pressure properties, etc. As for colour, most manufacturers like to have different colours for oils with different purposes regardless of whether or not the oil itself is actually the same stuff. For example (I'm pretty sure) Castrol PSF is Green/Blue and Castrol Dexron II ATF is Red. Having said all that, my understanding is that most Power Steering Fluid is very similar, maybe even the same???, oil as common ATF (apart from the dye colour in some cases)... But don't use my word as gospel. Quote
zeds4ever Posted May 18, 2011 Author Posted May 18, 2011 Thanks mate, think I might check it out with my Automatic service guy. He's pretty on to it. Regards : Alan. Quote
