wildy55 Posted April 16, 2011 Posted April 16, 2011 Being tall and constantly smacking my cranium on the tailgate, I'm wondering if it should open higher. The gas strut works fine, extends fully but might not be original spec. Basically, when fully open the bottom edge of the hatch is 1.35m off the ground. As I'm 1.88m, it's not a happy marriage. Can someone measure their car's opening so I can see if mine's standard or not? Cheers Martin Quote
Moderators Zedman240® Posted April 16, 2011 Moderators Posted April 16, 2011 My hatch opens to 1.56m to the edge that meets the tail light panel. So yours could go further. But I have fitted a gas strut from a late model Toyota that is no match to the original.. Quote
wildy55 Posted April 16, 2011 Author Posted April 16, 2011 Hey when you say no match for the original do you mean in performance or looks? And what model Toyota? Quote
Moderators Zedman240® Posted April 17, 2011 Moderators Posted April 17, 2011 As in lifting strength... It takes a fair bit of force to close and being a 240, there is only one... Stabilus part # is 889857-0450N 081/93 I think that's all the info you need. It's almost a bolt in thing. You have to remove the little bracket off the body and re drill a hole to mount the ball end to the hatch; on the bracket that comes on the strut and not on the hatch which is a good thing. Quote
