AussieZed Posted February 15, 2011 Posted February 15, 2011 Hi folks, This seems like a very stupid question, but I am having a hell of a job getting an accessory belt for my L26 with air con. The parts shops tell me that the correct belt is the same as the one that goes to the alternator... but that doesn't seem to be true, as that belt is too short to reach the air con compressor (which can't be adjusted in and out like an alternator). Am I being a total idiot here?? Any advice greatly appreciated!! R. Quote
Sirpent Posted February 15, 2011 Posted February 15, 2011 The airconditioning belt utilises an idler pulley / tensioner, there is no adjustment done by manipulating the compressor as is the case with the alt. Any L6 or even L series period Datsun has these items, I would suggest checking some wrecking yards for 240/260/280 series motors that ran aircon. Quote
AussieZed Posted February 15, 2011 Author Posted February 15, 2011 Thanks mate, I have the tensioner, but the actual belt is too short to run from the compressor to the central pulley even without the tensioner fitted. I suspect the belt is wrong ... does anyone have an aircon belt to stick beside the fanbelt and see if they are the same?? R. Quote

Moderators Zedman240® Posted February 15, 2011 Moderators Posted February 15, 2011 What I would do, is get a piece of string, run it around all the pulleys, and then measure the string. Belt part numbers usually have the length in millimters so you should be able to find a close match. Also, take note of the pulley groove, is it wide, narrow or a deep v etc..I had to do that when I installed an under driven crank pulley on my L28; no part numbers where available so I had to pick a belt off from the shelf. Took about three tries but I got it in the end.. Quote
